My medication regimen until about a month or two ago consisted of Remeron, Effexor, and Wellbutrin. All were at fairly low doses (30, 75, and 150 mg daily, respectively), but aren't those ALL SSRIs? How common is Serotonin Syndrome?

I thought it was from mixing SSRIs and MAOIs. Also if taking MAOIs, there is a strict diet regimen prohibiting certain foods. If not followed this can also result in SS.

No, they are all three different with some overlapping with the norepipinephrine effects. This isn't the same a seritonin. I don't think any of them are a "straight" SSRI.
Talk with our doc, pharmacist or do searches for more info. There's alot of info out there to find.
Are you no longer taking this trio?

They all affect Serotonin, but after some research, I don't think they quite fit the category of SSRI.
I'm off the Wellbutrin, withdrawing from Remeron, and waiting to discontinue Effexor.

Remeron increases release of Serotonin, Effexor is an SNRI (Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor), and Wellbutrin only has minimal effect on Serotonin.
I'm discontinuing the meds to see if I can function without them...

Wellbutrin has neglegable effects on serotonin, it is mainly a norepinephrine and dopamine reputake inhibitor. Remeron has no serotonin reputake effects. It does indirectly enhance the serotogenic system by influenc on the noradrenic alpha 2 autoreceptors. Effexor increases serotonin through its reputake capabilities.
Effexor and remeron can be a power punch "calafornia rocket fuel" it was dubbed. I cant even imagine adding wellbutrin :) Anyhow I am under the notion that if serotonin syndrome is going to develop, it will upon initiation of the drugs. I don't think it can develop over time, but I could be wrong.

I'm not really worried about developing the condition, I am just wondering if it was possible to develop it from the combination. I've had less and less confidence in my psychiatrist lately...I wish someone told me that there were such nasty withdrawals. I've had hives for two weeks and can't sleep for more than 5-6 hours at a time (from the Remeron discontinuation). Effexor is next...pray for me.

Thanks...good to know that the combination was good, though. I was starting to worry about the other patients of my doctor.
