Adderall vs. Dexedrine. A few questions...

Posted by Tom1982 on December 8, 2003, at 23:50:45

I have read a lot of info and I was wondering if there are any advantages to taking adderall? (Besides it lasting longer.)

L- amphetamine must have some positive effects...?

Also if you have taken both drugs:

1.) Do you feel dexedrine is as effective as adderall at improving your ability to focus?

2.) Does it help you stay alert any better?

3.) Does it improve your mood better?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

-Tom

I personally found Dexedrine to be more effective for focus and mood. I'm not quite sure what you mean by alert. All of these benefits, however, can be negated by inconsistent dosing. I really have to follow a rigid dosing schedule. Not exactly easy with an attention span of a two year old in a toy store. I sometimes switch back to Adderall, but have always found my way back to Dexedrine.

I prefer Dexedrine over Adderrall because the Dex is a bit "Smoother"on my system than Adderrall. It made me feel trashy later in the day when it wore off. That,s just my reaction, though. Both are good.Festus

IIRC, L-amphetamine doesn't help you focus or elevate your mood, it only causes bodily side effects like jitters and rapid heart beat. I always thought that it was in there to make adderall less abusable. But some people claim that adderall feels "smoother" and they prefer it over dexedrine. In my own limited experience, dexedrine caused an unpleasant knot in my stomach, but was otherwise tolerable, whereas adderall knotted up my stomach less but caused so many other side effects that I found it useless. Does anyone know if L-amphetamine has a purpose?

Purpose of L-amp? It does I believe have some positive broncho-dilatory effects that dex does not have.

Does anoyone else seem to have breathing rebound problems with dex? I sometimes feel as though my lungs are having a hard time dilating, and my breathing is shallower.

On the other hand, I cannot tolerate Adderall any more; but those rare times I retry it, I notice the enhanced breathing effects that feels like a relief, compared with dex.

But I agree that dex is far better for focus. But it does leave me physically less resilient.
