Brand name Klonopin looks cool!

Posted by mattdds on November 26, 2003, at 21:02:52

So I went to my doc today, and he wrote out for the regular 1mg tabs b.i.d. Then he looked up and said "We'll give you the brand name", then kind of grinned.

They're cool looking. Blue tabs with a "K" in the center.

I know they're not a damn bit different, but they look so cool I won't be able to resist the placebo effect!

No, there is no other point to this post :).

Matt

I find them a fair amount different. My understanding is that bioavailability for generics can vary from -20% to +25% of the brand name? Anyway, whatever generic company I got definitely was on the -20% side, so I insist on brand name. I don't care with any of my other meds, but I want the real Klonopin.

What does your doc give you Klonopin for? Just curious. I was given it for RLS (restless leg syndrome). I don't like taking it because it gives me a hangover the next morning.
Happy Turkey Day!

Brand name Valium looks cool, too!!!

Brand name Valium looks very similar to Klonopin. They are both made by Roche. Valium is the same shape, but has a V cut out of the middle and the tablets are white, yellow, or blue depending on strength. I think you are right about psychosomatic effect--a really cool looking pill plants a seed in your mind that the medicine is really cutting edge.

FYI:
brand name Klonopin/clonazepam is RIVOTRIL by Roche.
And they come in 0.5 mg and 2 mg tablets

Klonopin is a brand name for clonazepam, as well as Rivotril. There shouldn't be any difference in efficacy among the generic and brand name products.

Weird, I get the regular old circular pink tablets. And I find that I don't even need to take them with water because they taste so sweet and dissolve in my mouth. I know they aren't supposed to be taken sublingually...anybody else notice this?

My doctor gives me brand name Ativan, cause generic does nothing for me. But, I don't get the pretty blue Klonopin!

I always thought that the term "brand-name" refers to the product that had/has the patent on the "molecule".

Thus "Dexedrine" will always be the only "brand-name" for d-amphetamine, while anything else, including "Dextrostat" are generics, except for if Glaxo decides to market their d-amphetamine (Dexedrine) under another name in another country, for example, as it is the case with lorazepam by Wyeth. Wyeth held the patent, markets lorazepam as "Ativan" in America, but as "Tavor" in Europe.
So to my understanding, both, Tavor and Ativan are "brand name" lorazepam.

...but then I may be wrong, of course.
