breast enlargement?

Posted by Cloud on November 3, 2003, at 19:27:50

Hi. I just started taking zoloft 50mg together with pericyazine, and looked up as much info as I could find on them. From what I've seen, weight gain, breast enlargement and galactorrhoea is reasonably common with SSRI's.
Which antidepressants most commonly cause breast enlargement? which cause weight gain? and how much? and what about zoloft? are these effects dose related/duration?
I'm already a DDD... I *REALLY* don't want to get any bigger...

Anyone have this?

I suspect any breast enlargement is due to weight gain. And where people gain weight is very individualized as is reactions to drugs. So if you gain weight while taking an AD, you will gain it wherever you normally tend to gain weight.

Yep, and I didn't want to be bigger either. Went from 36C to a possible 38D. My cuppeth overfloweth.

I got a little gain from Effexor. It didn't come from weight gain. I already had twenty extra pounds on and still weigh that. (Hard to lose on these drugs!) I felt growing pains like when I was a teenager–those stabbing pains. I couldn't figure out why I had those; then it became clear.

I've been on Effexor for over two years. It started, I think, about a year into the drug. Recently I felt a stab again. I hope that was just a random ache. I don't want any more change.

My breasts went up a cup at first on straterra, and they were flushed and really tender. It was really weird and made me worry about breat cancer, because there seemed to be a lot of hormonal changes there.
Anyway, I just finished menstruation and they seem to be going back to normal now.
I do think straterra and some of these other meds may temporarily effect hormones.

what meds were you all on? and what dose? how long before this started to happen, both weight gain and breast enlargement?
my cousin has been on zoloft too, for about 7 months, last couple of months has gained about 17lb and 2 cups. Is toodlebug right in that its probably from general weight gain?
should i ask for something other than ssri's ?

i have had a terrible time with SSRI's and effexor though they really help me with depression.
although i gained weight all over with paxil which is the drug i was on, my breast size increased at a very rapid pace. I went from a size 34C to a size 34FF. When i came off meds, i lost weight but my breasts stayed the same size. This doesnt happen to everyone.
well i am totally out of proportion now. It is supposedly due to rises in prolactin levels. However when i had mine tested it came out 'normal'.
Maybe a prolactin reducing drug would have helped me -despite my blood report.
I read many papers about this and infact prolactin increases the actual amount of breat tissue so its not merely fat.
well sorry to be so negative but this is what honestly happened to me.
i feel it maybe good to catch the problem before it gets too much to take.
personally i am very sensitive to ssri's when it comes to breast increase- except prozac.
talk to your doc- he may have a solution.
if u want i can send the paper on breast enlargemet, if your doctor is cynical like mine was
sorry too babble sooo much
hope this helps.
hope yrs is temporary.
love delna

thanks for the replies everyone.
Delna, I'd really appreciate those papers. can send them to my yahoo account? - should be fairly safe- raendur@yahoo.com
did you gain weight/ grow soon after starting or did this happen later on ? the reason i ask is that when i looked up the "official" info on some studies, they all had weight loss and diminished appetite(that's how i feel at the moment). how is it that everyone gained weight when it makes you eat less?? really weird

Wow, hmmm... I never experienced breast growth on any anti-depressants. To all who read this: What were your doses (high or small)? Am very curious.

Thanks for send the info!

OMG - you gained that much on just 20mg?? I started on aropax(paroxetine) originally, but developed a rash within 3-4 days, so I've been switched over to zoloft. I was lucky by the sounds of it...

I went from a 36B to a 36C after 6 weeks on 40 and then 60 mg. of Strattera for ADHD. This is too scary for me, as I am 52 and should be going through menopause, not puberty. There needs to be some serious research done about what these psych. drugs do hormonally, I think. (But, of course, the pharmaceutical companies have no reason to do so.)

Hi-
I think that many gain weight and especially breast size. I went a full cup size bigger on Zoloft and Remeron I gained 22 pounds, which I am trying to lose. The weight really came on after I started Remeron and I am looking to try to lose the weight with a combo of diet and excercise

Oh my goodness, I'm so thankful that I decided to check this site tonight. I was just researching yesterday the relationship between breast enlargement and Wellbutrin. I thought I was the only one experiencing this strange side effect.

Like so many I've also gained weight on the SSRIs that I took. I can not tolerate SSRIs an I've improved substantially with Wellbutrin.

I've also began to lose weight (about 10-15 pounds), but my cup size is the same.

Could you also send me the information you've found. I'd like to discuss this with my doctor when we meet in Dec.

Thanks!

Edgefield
