Effexor XR Question...

Posted by lnldy on November 7, 2003, at 22:14:56

Hi,
I am new to this board and I'm wondering has anyone suffered the withdrawl effects from being on only 37.5
I started on this dosage and would like to stay on it but I am fearfull to stay on this if I have to look forward to withdrawl. Even though the Effexor really works I'm not so sure it is worth it based on what I have been reading.

Hi, and welcome to the board!!! :-)

37.5mg of Effexor XR is a very low dose. I would venture a guess that withdrawal effects discontuing that dosage are less likely to be unbearable than say, 200mg or 300mg, but everyone's 'systems' are different.
I hope you can talk to your prescribing physician about what you're feeling, maybe he/she can give you alternatives or a 'pep-talk', so you can choose what is right for you at this time.
I took Effexor XR for quite a long time. I was taking 75mg a day. I didn't start having withdrawals until after a month of discontinuing it, but I survived. I wish the best for you whatever you decide to do.
Take care,
Kristen

I was not on the XR formulation, but experienced HORRENDOUS withdrawal going off *much* less than the 37.5. The last time I went off the stuff, I was taking half-tablets and had to taper down to dust, and still felt pretty rotten.

Despite hellish withdrawals TWICE in which I had no idea what was going on, I've gone back on Effexor a few times. When it's combined with an SSRI in the right amounts, I come pretty close to feeling ... normal. Effexor also eliminates the klutzy thing I have, which I'd never related to my depression.
