SSRIs /Effexor can be weaned off easily if....

Posted by platinumbride on October 10, 2003, at 0:38:02

...if you are lucky...

I don't mean to sound as if I am boasting. I am not. I only want to say that for some lucky (?) people, such as I (uh yeah, right) getting off of ssris is not so tough. I just got off of lexapro as easily as I did all of the other ones I ever did....cut back doses in half weeek by week. The stupid drug pooped out on me soI figured what is the point of continuing? Shrink agree. Sigh..I think I have exhausted every ssri now...sorry irrelevant to this post...

Moral: It is not hard for every person to get off these drugs. My heart goes out to those for whom it is, and I am not joking at all when I say that. So if you need to go off, you may not have such a tough time. I didn't even have a tough time with effexor. I repeat:I AM NOT BOASTING, only sharing an experience

Best to all,
Diane

Do you suffer from anxiety? If so, I would be interested in hearing your story. Thanks, Michael

Dear Michael,
I do have problems with anxiety, and that is why I take neurontin and always have some klonopin handy. I am bipolar II they say......

While it has been easy for me to get off of meds, I am generally resistant to meds (except for neurontin at between 1200-2400 mgs/day). Celexa, then lexapro and lamictal seemd to pull me out of the most horrible and loooooooong lasting depression imaginable(suicide attempt, nasty hospital stay...the whole nine yards, ending with a bankruptcy because I had no health insurance and couldn't get medicaid) <irrelevant> . The thing is that I always have seemed to need a bit of neurontin (I prefer it to klonopin because it doesn't make me depressed as benzos sometimes can for me).
SSRIs never did a thing for anxiety issues for me.
Michael, I am happy to type on and on, but I don't want to bore you or anyone else!!!
Do you want to know anything more specific? I am happy to talk about anything if it can be of help.

Diane

Diane:

No, keep typing, I am interested. So you take the Klonopin and Neurontin for anxiety only?

I feel the same way about SSRIs as you do: They haven't seemed to ever make any difference with anxiety.

What type of anxiety do you have? GAD? I have GAD, and I always feel like my mind is going 100 mph and body 1 mph. The Adderall seemed to help me first couple of weeks, now I'm not so sure it is not causing me more anxiety at this present moment. So confused ...

Please either post or e-mail me at sportscarvell@aol.com

thanks, Michael
