Prozac - Very Tired - need help...

Posted by sisyphus on August 19, 2003, at 7:56:53

Hi,

I have been on Prozac for several weeks, but still suffer from fatigue. I yawn whole day and cannot think. I just take 10mg per day. What should I do? Any suggestion? I need help...

I take 60mg Prozac (since December). In February I added both Provigil and Strattera, and they gave me significantly more energy. I tried each alone, but they don't work unless I have both (don't ask me why!). They also lowered my suicidality a lot.

Good luck

In fact, I have been on Adrafinil for 4 weeks too(300mg per day cause me enough headache). But still feel fatigue. I will continue and see what will turn out.

Thanks.

I think it just shows how different we all are. I know Proz is reputed to be one of the activating ADs. For me 10 mg has my motor running about twice normal speed! I'm hoping it will taper off over time.

I switched to Prozac Weekly 90mg which divides out to 12.86mg daily and also take 150mg of Wellbutrin SR once a day. I took the Prozac 20mg daily for about 12 days before starting the Prozac Weekly and it's much smoother, plus you only have to take it once a week, only having to take the Wellbutrin SR daily. The Wellbutrin picks me up a little and also helps with loss of sexual desire brought about by the Prozac Weekly. My doctor also had samples of both which makes it nice.

SSRIs aren't the 100% silver bullet » sisyphus

Sisyphus, what symptoms prompted the prescription of Prozac? Lethargic and inattentive sorts of depression can concievably involve *too much* serotonin with correspondingly low dopamine and norepinepherine. That's my current "line", as I think that sort of neurotransmitter imbalance, combined with post-meal hypoglycemia, was what turned me into a hypersomniac brain-fogged computer-chair-bound zombie. If you have too much serotonin to begin with, an SSRI will only make things worse, as might have happened to me twice before. I am relying on diet, supplements, and exercise to get my system back into balance.

The sort of folks Kramer profiled in "Listening to Prozac" as having the "better than well" effect were all rather high achievers suffering from emotional discontent. "Get-up-and-go" wasn't the root of their problem (though they typically became even more productive with greater self-esteem and mood). Also SSRIs have a good track record for OCD symptoms. I doubt they help the people with anhedonia and poor motivation one bit and I think it probably makes a good portion of them worse. But "depression" is "depression" right? Ask a couple questions and toss 'em a sample of the SSRI-of-the-week and see 'em in two weeks. *rolls eyes*
