Luvox for anxiety-social phobia? Input please

Posted by theo on July 30, 2003, at 9:48:12

I'm thinking about trying Luvox for anxiety-social phobia. Anyone had any good results from Luvox? Doc prescribed me 50mg twice daily.

I once tried fluvoxamine maleate (Luvox) for my social phobia. I started at 50mg twice daily for two weeks, then moved up to 100mg twice daily. It was awful--it did absolutely nothing for me but make me emotionally numb, irritable, and sexually defunct. And the withdrawal... oh, the horror!! It was ten times worse than Paxil withdrawal, if that tells you anything, and it lasted twice as long. I'd personally advise staying as far away from this stuff as you can.

Good news is I had no problem quitting Paxil. What are you taking now for social phobia??

For me Ritalin is the best and only SP drug, you wil be chatting up a storm.Klonopin is also good.Maoi's are good for it but I'm guessing that's too extreme for ya.I hate SSRI'S but what about Prozac,Celexa OR Lexapro? You could give Effexor a go.You know I think beta blockers are a joke for SP for me.I Dont notice a damn thing and I'll take up to 200mgs. and I can't understand why people use it.It must all be in theory.Ever try imaging people in their underwear? Ok stupid joke but I remember that brady bunch episode with Marcia and the driving instructor.

---Why did you quit paxil? I think luvox is too clumsy and has the most sides.
Take care

> What kind of sides and what do you mean by clumsy??

>>>>What I meant by clumsy is the twice a day dosing.I guess that isnt that much of a big deal but I like taking one dose in the morning or night as I am always on the go and forgetful:) But the sides are that people get way more nausea than the other SSRI's.Also more drowsiness and constipation than the other's.I heard the nausea can be pretty bad.You got the usual sexual dysfunction too. Also it interacts with more drugs than say Celexa or Zoloft. It is the least prescribed SSRI also.
Take care

> What about Anafranil??

>>>>Just curious do you have OCD symptoms? Anafranil, from what I know and the people I know who have used it.

-very,very powerful agent to combat OCD I am not sure of social phobia though.

-although its lumped in with the tricyclic's it's actually an SRI(serotonin reuptake inhibitor but not selective, hence the first "s" missing) with the tricyclic side effects. These can be troublesome like dizziness, high pulse, lowered blood pressure but biggest of all sedation.Doses are taken at bedtime, personally I dont find sedation a problem because I suffer from insomnia.
Like I said it is very potent and powerful but sometimes with a lot of side effects.I was actually thinking of taking a test trial with it.
some people combine it with an SSRI to boost effectiveness for instance 100 mgs of Zoloft with 50 mgs of Anafranil which makes for a very powerful combo.
take care
