Should I worry about this EPS I had before?

Posted by ace on June 4, 2003, at 2:55:36

Dudes,

Looks like its probably going to be gold old Zyprexa 2.5mg to finish the job Nardil almost finished!

Anyhow, there is some literature which suggests that people who has early EPS (precocious TD or EPS) are more liable to EPS symptoms.

Years ago, as an 18 year old Nardil virgin, I was put on Risperisone. Anyhow, after about 3 days starting Risperidone I think the joker could have upped me from 1mg to 2mg...I got pronounced akathisia. Think he put me back to 1mg - went away, but I was only on it extremely short time - 2 weeks maybe.

On the way to Zyprexa, is this really a bad sign, or am I being obsessive? (surely not!)

Thanks psychobabblers....

The Nardil Boy,
Ace.

Since you have only been on Nardil a few weeks, how do you know it has "almost finsihed" the job ?

Because I was on Nardil for 6 months before hand...in total I spent only 17 days off it...apart from Anafranil induced depression and serotonin syndrome induced derealization (worsening of) I didn't really suffer a full relapse. I know that it has almost finished the job because I can feel my anxiety/derealization abating. And maybe it might even get better, be reduced even more soon.

Wow, i thought it took years or at least months of antipsychotic use to develop any EPS. That's terrible. i'm sorry to be discouraging, and i could of course be wrong, but if just a few days of risperidone caused that i wouldn't be at all surprised if the Zyprexa could do the same thing. Sorry. But hopefully i'm wrong. Good luck.

No No, it was more a side-effect. It was clear it wasn't going to be permanent. It stopped at once the drug was lowered.

I really think it will be fine - for instance I have been on Thioridazine - for 4 weeks - NO Eps at all. I was on Zyprexa before actually, but only near 2 weeks - NO EPS. I was on Navane for a short time, once again no probs. I just think he highered the dose too soon, and maybe it wasn't suited to me.

It was a situation where someone instantly starts on a high dose of any drug - it's bound to cause bad effects. The doc just went too fast, IMO. Another doc told me, Risperidone does have EPS problems - more than what is commonly thought.

Let us know what you think!

Ace.

PS- I know Parnate failed for you. Sorry to hear this dude- going to try Nardil?

Sorry. But hopefully i'm wrong. Good luck.

Ohh, okay, i see. Sorry. Yeah, i think the Zyprexa will do you good then. Just start w/ as low a dose as possible.

Okay, that makes sense.

Yeah, it looks that way. Thank you though. Yeah, i think i'm gonna opt for the ole Nardil when i get in contact w/ my dr again (few weeks). i've heard almost nothing but positive remarks from those who've been on it more than 4 weeks (apart from side effects)-- especially you.
