What is the best way to deal with a hypertensive crisis? My doctor prescribed Nifedipine to be taken sub-lingualy in case of an emergency. Then I am supposed to go to the emergency room.
Problem is, I read an article that said that Nifedipine can be dangerous in case of hypertensive crisis (http://www.vh.org/adult/provider/pharmacyservices/PTNews/2000/09PTNews.html).
Any thoughts?

I don't know about the drugs, but the emergency room sounds right to me. I was on Parnate for a couple of months. I bought a bloodpressure reading kit, but I never had to use it.

Go to the ER right away. If you are in a remote location and can't get there, use back-up means. Otherwise, get to the hospital. H- Crisis in this case can be really life threatening.
Also, if you have to go, be sure to tell them what is going on. If you can cut the "diagnosis time" that will save precious minutes. It really can be a life/death situation.
In the meantime, follow the diet - don't risk it. Say goodbye to cheddar and hello to Kraft singles.
Good luck and let's keep our fingers crossed for the Selegiline Patch!!
