Sexual SE of SSRIs

Posted by sapphiredragon on April 30, 2003, at 7:31:23

Here is a link to an article about sexual side effects of SSRIs in women, and some possible strategies for dealing with them.

Has anyone tried any of these ???

Hi.

I guess the link didn't show up.

I saw something recently about the usage of sibutramine (Meridia) as a remedy for sexual side effects of medication. Actually, it was a project looking at one of the two sterioisomers, I can't remember which one. The project was discontinued, supposedly because of lack of funds.

I didn't find sibutramine helpful at all for sexual stuff. It doesn't seem to have an impact one way or the other on my sex life.

Hi.

Did you take it specifically as an antidote to AD sexual side effects? Do you think sibutramine has any potential as an antidepressant?

Thanks in advance.

It didn't help with SSRI (zoloft) related sexual dysfunction, and it doesn't seem to have much sexual activity on its own either.

I can't quite evaluate the antidepressant quality properly as I haven't been taking it regularly enough or in high enough doses. I've been taking 5mg about every other day, sometimes only twice a week, for a couple weeks now. I use it as an appetite supressant as I have overeating problems.

I am considering using it daily and seeing if it will help with anxiety and depression. Fortunately, I don't get any side effects from the dose I'm at (a full 10 mg capsule makes me feel abit weird but doubtless that would subside over time).

I'll let you know though how it goes if I use it in a more standard AD fashion.

Viagra for women - it works

Talked w/ pdoc about sexual side effects of my SSRI (Celexa) this week. He gave me a scrip for viagra, saying it works for women too.

I cut the 50 mg tablet into quarters and just took one. Then my husband and I had a very enjoyable time together. Viagra greatly heightened my sensitivity and I could finally orgasm easily again.

My pdoc also mentioned an herbal product called AVLIMIL, of which he had heard positive things. Interestingly, my gynecologist had also mentioned this product to me last month. I haven't tried it yet, but I thought I'd mention it here anyway.
