Effexor odd symptoms, any ideas?

Posted by artquilter on May 2, 2003, at 20:04:44

I am on 150 mg Effexor XR. I have occasionally forgotton a dose so I know the sensations of withdrawal: dizziness, vertigo electrical shocks or zings, "jumpy"vision ( the only way to describe it is as you look around your eyes seem to jump to catch up with your head) nausea etc. I am now starting to get some of these symptoms even when I have taken my meds and my question is has anyone else experienced this? Is it something I am doing wrong? I always try to take it at the exact same time every day and on a full stomach. could there be something else inhibiting the absorption? I'd love to get off this, I've been on it for 3 years, my Dr. doesn't seem too concerned with my side effects. I also have vivid nightmares and my husband says I thrash around at night. Thanks

Hi..
This is just a guess....I often get slight withdrawal (also on xr version for about 4 years) if I sleep a lot.
Something about serotonin and sleep--think we use a lot of serotonin when we sleep.
So if I sleep 12 hours or more I get the sensations.
Just my thought ..may be wrong.
As for the nightmares I still have these..but when I have taken low dose anti-psychotic such as zyprexa or lamictal I slept much deeper with less dreams--so I was also less tired during the day.
