Possibly ready to stop Nardil therapy - Questions!

Posted by cosis on April 29, 2003, at 23:56:42

Well I been on Nardil for over 8 months now. I would say the benefits have been very good. Lately though I have been wanting to get off the drug and see how I do. I am thinking I can always go back on it if I need too.

Anyway probably the worst effect of Nardil was the 20 pound weight gain. Being thin all my life I now want to get back down close to my original weight. Has anyone lost the weight easily after stopping Nardil? I read in one of my drug books and usually the weight is lost after stopping Nardil.

Can anyone else give me some suggestions/advice on stopping with Nardil.

I plan to taper off for 2 weeks...

Thx
Nick

You are Kidding me! You too!

2 weeks is enough taper - lose 15mg every 3 days.

Weight will be back to normal within 6 weeks according to data.

I'm using the same reasoning - it's alaways there if we need it again.

The manafacturer in Australia and UK said to me (a consumer advice person) It will NEVER die.

It'll always be around.

What dose are you at?

Are you going to Parnate or anything else?

Cheers Nick,
Ace.

Nick,

ADs don't cure your symptoms, they're only a band-aid. Just becareful you don't throw yourself into a hole. I've done it too many times. I thought "hey, I'm feeling better" then I'd taper of the meds and find myself at square one. Best wishes.

I would Ace but the side effects are really starting to bug me... That being Weight gain.. I gained over 20 lbs now and I feel like a balloon.
Anyway if my anxiety is to much to handle I will go back to Nardil but a lower dose, maybe 60-75g.

thanks for your concern

Problem is Nick, I think anxiety will come back. Cosider Parnate or your good idea, lower dose Nardil. How about trying to exercise more or eat less or shit like that? Doesn't work.

I too have gained weigh (quit a bit) But I don't give a rat's ass. All different Of course.

Keep us posted. BTW, I would try low dose Nardil NOW, see how that goes, before eliminating it. You know how great it is...

Ace.

Yes you have a good point. I tried working out and eating under 2k calories for 3 weeks and didn't lose a pound. It seems my metabolism is gone down the drain. I can see myself even gaining more weight because my eating habits are getting worse for sweet foods.

I did CBT therapy in the past w/ success, unfortunately I stopped practicing and fell back down the anxiety trap.

I will keep you up to date. For some reason on 75g today I have a lot of energy and less anxiety then on 90mg... very weird
