L-theanine and health

Here's an interesting link re: potential health benefits of L-theanine, found in tea. It's becoming popular as a supplement due to its calming properties (and in my experience, it actually does seem to have a mild effect). Now it looks like it may be an immune system booster too.

You can read all you want, I take studies about a drugs positive effects with a grain of salt (especially from a major media/marketing giant like msnbc). I've tried L-Theanine for a few monthes, both straight from tea and from pill form. It didn't do a thing for me, negative or pos. Although your mileage may vary. Either way I wish you luck.

I think that skepticism is healthy; most of the supplements I've tried haven't had any discernable effect, and I'm leery of the exaggerated claims made for many of them. L-theanine actually seems to do something for me; not as powerfully as the prescription meds I take, but I doubt it's placebo effect (since I generally try these things not really expecting them to work).

And, there is a fair bit of evidence regarding the health benefits of tea, so I tend to find this more believable than some of he other reports I see, especially in the popular media. But of course, this will have to be tested much more extensively. I just thought it was kind of interesting.
