Is it ok to take Viagra with Lexapro?

Posted by MrT on April 22, 2003, at 17:58:05

Hello..I already have a sexual desire problem and I'm fixing to start taking Lexapro. I understand it can make this situation worse. I'm wondering if anyone on here knows if it is medically ok to take Viagra while on Lexapro. I really don't need this problem to get worse. Thank you...

hi mr. t,

almost everything i know comes from the lex thread which starts at "Anyone switched to Lexapro? « ggrrl": see http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20020609/msgs/109458.html;

seems like someone was using viagra with lex and he wasn't concerned about any adverse drug-interactions, so from that point it didn't seem to be a problem.

however sexual dysfunction SEs can happen in (at least) 3 different ways: 1) libidinal desire; 2) erectile function; 3) orgasmic response.

the poster who tried viagra said that it only helped 2) , but not 1)..... he was not pleased.

for me, lexapro has only caused temporary (a week) anorgasnia when i first started lex and when i increased my dose .... no desire problems here.

what are you being treated for? how much and how long have you taken lexapro?

lexapro's SEs vary greatly from person to person .... usually the SEs wear off after 4 to 8 weeks.

good luck and take care and keep posting,
~ jim
