SHARE YOUR SEROQUEL EXPERIENCE

Posted by Tiina on April 21, 2003, at 8:03:17

Hi all!
I'm still thinking about asking my doctor to switch me from Risperdal to Seroquel and I'd like to hear about your experiences with it more in detail than what I have before. What drugs are you possibly taking with it and how do they work together and does it affect your sleep in the long run etc.? Does it elevate your mood or make you unmotivated? (I've read about it making people unmotivated here) Did it poop out or something? Some people say it's a great drug but I'm a skeptic so I think there must be some downsides to it and I'd like to hear from people what those are. I appreciate any help

sedation. on a miniscule (and I mean teensy) dose it knocks me out. even the next day, though this is true for almost anything that puts me out.

the only thing i can clearly say about seroquel is that it caused me to be panicky when i took it. i have very strange med responses though so this probably wont happen to you.

my doctor prescribed seroquel for sleep, after ambien and klonopin didn't help. I was on what I think was a fairly high dose (250 mg). I didn't find it sedating at all, but when I did sleep, I consistenly had horrible nightmares that stopped when I stopped taking seroquel. from what I've read, I don't think my response to seroquel was typical, but that was my experience.

I only take Seroquel 50mg. I love it. I take it mainly for sleep and it does the trick. My Ambien and Sonota pooped out. It does make me pretty groggy in the morning and takes about a half hour to wear off, but I am pretty sensitive to meds that make you sleepy. I don't have any side effects from it besides dry mouth. But I think that one common. I take 40mg Prozac and 100mg Wellbutrin also. Good luck, I hope I was of some help.

In my personal experience Seroquel was the best drug . It gave me motivation , cleared my mind. Any of the antidepressants could do that for me . But i think every person reacts diferent to drugs
The only side effect , was somnolence . But I fixed that taking it in the nigth before go to the bed.
Good luck

i found it to be an excellent medication for bipolar mania, sleep, and mood stabilization. i was hoping to stay on it forever, but i started getting some TD-like symptoms. oddly, this is the first medication i really did NOT want to give up but HAD to. Urggh.

Now I use it for acute insomnia and when i start launching into hypomania. usually just a few weeks, then i go off.

creaky.

Seroquel has been a great med for me for sleep. However, it sure has a heavy hangover for me. My diagnosis is Major depression w/ GAD. I've taken Seroquel w/SSRIs, a Tricyclic, benzo and dexedrine (of course not all at the same time). I think I've been on Seroquel for at least 6-7 months if not more. It at first helped w/ anxiety some - when I was taking one doseage in the morning as well as night. However, it was too sedating so I only take a nightly dosage.

I went off it for a little while because of weight gain - however, nothing seemed to help me sleep as well so I'm back on it.

I haven't had any movement side effects either (knock on wood).

hope this helps

I couldn't think straight or get anything done on seroquel, my crazy thoughts were gone but I was a zombie. Even being on adderal during the daytime didn't cut the side effects, I say it's a nasty drug. I'm now on abilify, this med gives me pretty bad insomnia and restless legs.It is always something!

Same as Hattree - SEDATION, on a miniscule dose. I take it as a SLEEP AID, not for any other reason! It works like a charm.

I had muscle problems on Geodon and switched over to Serequel very slowly - increased 50mg every 2-3 weeks until I got up to 200mg. I never felt like a zombie on it, by doing so. I take it right before I go to sleep - otherwise I'll feel out of it. I wake up 6-8 hours after taking it - usually 6am and go running or to the gym - don't feel drowsy at all. I don't feel any different on the drug than I did before taking the drug which is good. The Geodon messed up my back so much - caused a lot of back pain - I never thought I could run again, but now I can off the Geodon and on the Serequel.

If the Risperdal is causing you weight gain problems, than I would definitely consider the Serequel - or Geodon (if you are one of those lucky people not to have muscle problems). I had tremendous weight gain on Risperdal - but lost the weight eventually when I went off of it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
