I just started EffexorXR 75 mg on Tuesday night. Woke up two hours later with severe anxiety, sweating, and nausea. Took a couple of Ativan and went back to bed. Woke up to go to work, but ended up calling in sick. I slept pretty much all day. I took another dose last night and didn't experience the anxiety as much, so I went to work today. I've been having a hard time wanting to eat. My husband says I look like I've been poisened. Please tell me that these side effects go away with time. I'm thinking of calling my pdoc tomorrow.

sounds like you should call your dr. a psych. nurse told me that sometimes people _can_ feel like they have the flu when they start an antidepressant, but that it goes away. but if it makes you feel panicky and sweaty every time, it might not be your med.
i would call the dr. to make sure this is not more serious than adjustment to the drug.

I thought the "normal" starting dose of Effexor XR was 37.5 mg per day for a week or two and then increase to 75 mg XR per day.
Even starting at 37.5 XR which I did about a year ago, I had simptons like you mentioned.
My personal opinion is going slower and starting at 37.5 is less of a shock to your system.

Seems like a common side effect from what I'm reading. My husband started taking Effexor 37.5 mg 2x daily approx 6 wks ago for OCD - after weaning off Prozac. He's now up to 150 mg daily. Thought he had the flu a couple weeks ago. Sweating, chills, major fatigue...1st time called in sick in 4 years. Still lingering a bit although he feels much better. Hope it will continue to dissipate.
On a positive note, Prozac made him severely depressed; he's been much happier and productive on the Effexor.Good luck!
