Need advise on lex and Adderall; I'm new here

Posted by CJ Nightowl on April 6, 2003, at 3:19:02

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this website and thank GOd I found it! I was on Celexa for about 16 months and decided to switch to Lexapro because my regular doctor didn't want me to go to 40 mg of Celexa. She said 20 mg of Lexapro was equal or better than 40 of Celexa, but they were the exact same thing, just "mirror images of each other". Whatever.

So I decided to cut the 20 mg tabs of Lex in half and have been doing that for 12 days now. While I can't complain about depression right now, I have terrible headaches every single day and seem to get more wired as the day goes on. It's 3:00 am right now! I have tried taking it in the evening, but then I toss and turn all night and taking it in the morning makes me like this! I also have had a couple bouts of dizziness today. Anyone else have that SE?
Any helpful suggestions and/or encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Now about Adderall. I have had fatigue for several years now. The reason I (not the doc's reason) wanted to change from the Celexa was that I was hoping to gain some kind of motivation and energy with a different medication. I have been taking 10mg of Adderall for about 9 months now. Some days it works and some days it doesn't. My Insurance only okay'd the Adderall after my doctor wrote a letter of explanation and then they only okay'd 10mg for 1 year. I have to take No Doz along with the Adderall when I have a particularly busy "Mom" day. But most days the only reason I even get dressed at all is because I don't want my daughter or my husband to think I am lazy. I'm not! I think about all the things I would like to do and used to do, but I just don't have the energy to anymore. What is going on with me? I know this is a classic symptom of depression, but I don't feel depressed anymore. I do however feel exhaperated (sp?)because
my days and nights seem to be completely flip-flopped. Please help!
Thanks!
CJ

i totally know how you feel cj - and all i can say is that i havent found the answer yet either - although somedays i feel like giving up and sleeping all day and night with the help of a sleeping agent (which i did this past weekend) and somedays i have enough energy to actually get up and function for a few hours. im a mom too, and an artist by profession so walking around with a cigarette in pajamas driving my son to karate is somewhat 'expected' or 'accepted' - but i dont want to live my life this way.

im officially done with week 4 on lex and most of the side effects are gone now, however the depression still remains. i took 20 mgs of ritalin today just to get myself out of bed because i have a project that is overdue and if i dont submit something soon i will have to pay late penalties.

hope your journey is better than mine - i had to take lex both during the day and at night to find the perfect time...but havent found a good time yet. until then i just keep experimenting. if it doesnt work within a few weeks then i might have to try yet another ad// *sigh*

good luck to you!

Can't speak for ald. - into week 10 at 10mg Lexapro.

I had MAJOR headaches in the beginning, along with a big list of other SE's. Had several Bad depression days around week 4; and anxiety attacks (which I have never had befor).

All SE's are gone for me now and I have not had a serious "anger attack" pretty much since I started Lex, no major fights w/spouse over insignificant BS.

Can NOT say my depression is gone, still have ups and downs, they are just not so EXTREME, and I can deal with them more easily.

BUT.....THAT IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT over what I was going through befor Lex.
