Serzone--Long Term Use

Posted by T_R_D on March 17, 2003, at 13:27:33

Has anyone had success with Serzone as a "permanent" antidepressant? I've had a couple of friends who used it, claimed it worked wonders and then it stopped. I know the drugs work differently for everyone, just looking for folks' experiences.

I'm just starting it out now...looking for a better solution after stopping Effexor augmented with thyroid drug Cytomel. Trying to find something "better."

Hi:

I have had much success with combining Serzone and another SSRI/SNRI. In particular, I found it worked great with some of the activating antidepressants, such as Zoloft and Effexor. In fact, I think it is an excellent augmenting agent, and it's robust effect on me was stronger than most other "augmenting" agents, like Lithium, Buspar, and Thyroid. It seemed to help two major affects: sleeping and sex drive.

The sad part is Serzone seems to have fallen out of 'fashion' with pdocs, and the whole 'liver complication' possibility (as someone pointed out, could be easily monitored just like with folks who take Tegretol) seems to be putting the nails in it's coffin. In honesty, when I first tried this a.d. when it first came out, it was *such* a nice relief from many of the side-effects of the SSRI's at the time.

So, my advice is you may likely find an excellent combination in Effexor with Serzone.

Best wishes...
Jay

Really Jay?? Why? I am thinking about adding Serzone to my 75mg of Effexor-it may do the trick.
Any other thoughts??
Thanks, Kristen
