I'm annoyed.
90% of the literature says lithium is absolutely fine with Nardil or Parnate.10% are saying there is a chance of serotonin syndrome.
What the heck is it?
I've got my script and am about to buy the Lithium.
Ace,
Nardil, 105mg.

Hi Ace.The answer is both. However, my impression is that serotonin syndrome with lithium augmentation is rare. I would not let that stop me from adding it to an MAOI. In fact, Parnate + Lithium works magic for some people.
Good luck.

Hi Ace,
I see from your message you asked your question yesterday. Sorry, but didn't read it until today. I actually thought you were asking what Serotonin Syndrome is. If so, you can find the information on the following page:http://members.aol.com/atracyphd/syndrome.htm
If I haven't interpreted your message correctly, I apologise.
Having followed your progress on the board I am sorry your beloved Nardil wasn't enough on its own to keep you well.I'm taking it too.
Your upbeat and direct posts are greatly appreciated by many on the board and I'm sure lots of us will have fingers crossed for you.
Good luck and take care
Eilidh.

I assume you are the same person. There seems to have been a major misunderstanding regarding my post (which was actually someone else's) which led you to quit the MAOI Group. I urge you to rejoin as you are sincerely missed and I urge you to at least read the reactions to your message in which you announced you were quitting the board, I think it will clear up the misunderstanding.

No No...that's cool. I study psychopharmacology!

Yeah...It's a shame we couldn't get more than 60% relief for the OCD. Anyhow this is another challenge. And that is what makes life interesting. With all our suffering, at least we don't have boring lifes!

>That's great! When it comes to Nardil I speak from my heart. And it's such a great thing that you have a warm, community spirit about you. We are all miles apart but we are a special bunch of people - bravely marching on. I too hope everyone on this site finds peace.
The Litium should be cool. It has no withdrawal at all so I can at least give it a try. Since it enhances serotonin we are looking at it INCREASING the fantastic work of Nardil (Mr. Nardil needs a break!- lately he has gone up to 105 and 120mg!) That means even less of my 4 or 5 anxiety d/o's and LESS OF OCD (which is a stubborn little man!)
>God Bless you Eilidh,

> >Ace,
I offer you the following advice from the bottom of my heart because I am a little concerned for you. Please, do not take it as condescending or anything. I am happy that you have found such relief from Nardil and I hope it continues.
You are in your mid-20's and I am sure if you could have it your way, you would be on Nardil for the rest of your life. There would be no problem with that except for one thing--Nardil can (though, won't necessarily) poop-out. You are in remission from most of your mental illnesses now. I advise you to try some sort of therapy. I agree with you 100% that these disorders have a chemical and/or genetic origin. BUT, as I mentioned in a previous thread this does not mean that types of therapy cannot still be useful.
For example, when someone has heart disease they are prescribed medication, they can't just "get over it" as those insensitive to the horrors of anxiety/depression advise us. Along with their medication, the patient with heart disease MUST learn to change their behaviour in such a way to prevent a relapse and to not exacerbate the disease. When you are in such a great state as you are in now, I think you have a unique opportunity to explore ways to learn to think in a manner that will minimize the symptoms of your chemical/genetic disorder. Just as the patient of heart disease must learn to not eat saturated fat, not smoke, etc., the patient of mental illness must learn how to cope with their illness as well.
The problem with therapy is that it is very hard to make ANY progress when one is in the middle of a horrible depressive/anxious episode. Now, that you are out of one, the progress you could make could be as miraculous as the progress that little orange pill gave you. You should try it now. I hope and pray to G-d that Nardil always provides the relief you want but there is a chance that it will poop out. Ask Elizabeth and others. I think you should use this time not to search through every possible medication combination that may be better than you are feeling now but to take a more holistic approach to your illness. Just my two cents (and you may think that is all they are worth). I wish you the best and G-d Bless.
Thanks for listening.

Jack,
Quite the little detective aren't you.
I chose the pseudonym for the MAOI group as it was a new, untested group, and I preferred to check it out without using my name. I didn't realise I would be under such scrutiny.
For the past month now I have not been in the best of circumstances, I'm oversensitive and quite irritable. I'm misunderstanding and generally not concentrating very well.Indeed, I think I'm not the easiest of people to communicate with right now. I have a tremendous amount of job related stress at the moment which is undermining my mood level. This will pass in due course, but at present I have to deal with it.Consequently I'm a very unhappy person.
Eilidh.
