My husband has been given Lexapro for anxiety disorder, not depression, but I read on the boards that it will cause anxiety! The lexapro is suppose to relieve his hypocondria and nervousness. Does anyone have any experience with Lexapro for the same problem? He hasn't begun the medication yet and I could use some advice. I am very concerned.

> SUI also have anxiety and take Lexapro. I have been taking it since the middle of December. At first it increased anxiety (physical) and I needed to increase clonazepam for a while. I started low (5 mg) and increased very gradually. I now take 10 mg. There has been a significant improvement in my anxiety but it took a lot of persistence to ride out the initial side effects to reach this point. My husband is often commenting about how much better I am doing. When I complain about neck tension or fatigue s/e he reminds me how much better I am overall and encourages rest. I do not know if I could have stuck it out without the clonazepam .50mg.
The anxiety/depression (who knows which is which) was causing heart palpitations, dizziness, stomach problems, chest pain, etc.
I can understand your concern but from my experience the end result has been wonderful.

ill try to explain it like the flu shot at first the flu shot gives you flu slu virus so you can fight it off, so these SSRI's -LEX is going to be a rough ride in the start week or even two but tell your dr. you need something to ease the affects or else its very hadr alone on lex-only. i hope this explains it to some help for you but side effects are normal and worth going through for final results ,good luck, tell him to excersize dont lay around .

I am on Lex for anxiety and depression, and since I have been on it I feel more anxious. I don't know if the medicine is working for me yet, tho.

Physicial anxiety (jitteriness) may be increased when starting an SSRI such as Lexapro. But mental anxiety (worrying) should always decrease.
I take Lexapro and have had excellent results. I found that Valerian is very good for jitteriness. It takes about 30 minutes to work. It calms you down with no drowsiness. Also, it is supposed to be safe. It smells bad so tell him to try to hold his breath while taking it. I take the GNC brand. I take it as needed, about 2 or 3 times each week. But when I first started on Lexapro, I took it every day.

I have been taking Lexapro for several months (about four?? I lose track.) and am definitely less anxious. And when things happen that in the past would have provoked a major spin-out-of-control episode I can take a deep breath, step back, and make a decision without overreacting.
As always, your mileage may vary, and not everyone responds the same. But it's not accurate that everyone's anxiety gets worse (just like I wouldn't dream of telling you that everyone's will get better.)

Still experiencing anxiety and over reaction to criticism or shall I say sensitivity. Can't get ahold of my doctor. Waiting to see what is next. I still don't think this is working for me. UGH :^(
