Hi, I have some questions about Wellbutrin XR. I was wondering what kind of sexual side effects is has, I've heard it increases libido but what about staying power? It doesn't cause premature ejaculation does it? Also I was curious what chemicals in the brain it acts on(seratonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, gaba?) And what is the normal dosage. I'm being started on 300 mg for smoking cessation and social anxiety. Although I also have ocd & some depression. I was wondering what could be augmented with it.

My experience with Wellbutrin was not very positive. It had no effect on my depression, it did not improve my concentration and it made me terribly irritable. It did seem to increase my libido, but I also got impotent a couple of times. Hope it works better for you...

This is only my 2nd day on it... so far I felt increased energy and maybe a little bit increased concentration(more than any ssri). Any other responses please.

If you arent prone to or experience Paranoia, Fear states, compulsions, WELLBUTRIN Is a great choice,
If you have fear or Paranoia (or delusions) Wellbutrin should be thrown to the Dogs.
Its tragic that we have to worry about getting it up on these drugs,, Its the Phamaceutical Industries job to "solve " this, not ours. THey are the ones with 500 million in the bank. would an employee of X Corporation put up with not getting it up?
BTW I take Nortripline (IM allergic to ALL SSRIS)sorry to gripe,its 7 AM here LOL

I didn't like WB at all, and had many side effects, so I quit it after 2 months. However, I have anxiety problems, and WB can exacerbate these (it certainly did for me). For others it can be very helpful (I know one person who found it a great AD, and another who completely freaked out and thought she was having a heart attack the first time she took it).
Re: dosage: 300 mg seems pretty typical, usually titrated up from 150 mg over a week or so. The maximum is generally considered to be 450 mg, although there are exceptions.
Oh, and regarding sexual side effects: I had lots of other side effects, but none in that area. I've heard other anecdotal reports of it increasing libido, and it's sometimes used to offset the sexual s/e of SSRIs.
The mechanism of action isn't fully understood (as usual) but it seems to involve increased concentration of norepinephrine ("adrenalin") in certain synapses.

> Wellbutrin should be thrown to the Dogs.Dunno about that... I had some anxiety symptoms over the years and have done very well on Wellbutrin for depression (7 years and counting, most of that time at 400mg/day of SR). Think I had one or two mild panic attacks during that time.
