baby?

Posted by mlj 123 on February 4, 2003, at 20:11:39

Im terrified to have a child. What if I go crazy if I go off the medicine? Will the baby suffer because Ive taken any kind of medicine for anxiety/panic? Can anyone offer me any advice. Ive been trobled by this for the last couple of months. I just dont want to miss out on such a wonderful experience. Im at that point in life where I have to think about having a child now.

I don't have all the answers to your question and as a man it is of course different for me in the physical way anways. I am quite positive that taking anything before, as opposed to during a pregnancy won't usually harm for a mother. When it comes to having a child though you still want to make sure you are as in best mental shape as possible, or better than when you where really sick. Having a baby is a whole new world of stresses itself, but has it's rewards. From the background I come from though, I say you have to be very, very responsible and be that child's one and only reliability. You have a child for life obviously and not just until they get bigger and grow up. I hope that doesn't sound mean, its just my judgement.

When I decided to have my first child I was taking Anafranil. I spoke to my Dr. prior to getting pregnant and she was very supportive. She also said being on the antidepressant would help with the bavy blues. My son is a wonderful perfect 6 year old. I nursed him for 4 months.

By the time I wanted to have a second I was on Paxil. Again I asked my Dr. (I was in a new city so I had a new Doc.) Again she said yes and was very supportive. My daughter is an incredable 3 1/2 year old. I also breastfeed her for 10 months while also on the paxil. She is amazing, no word of a lye she was speaking 3 word sentences at 12 months. Both of my children are perfect. I don't know what med your taking but I would recommend talking to your dr. about what your on. I presonally don't see any reason why you can't have a baby. Best Luck

What meds are you taking? My youngest just turned 1 and I have bipolar and panic disorders. Like the last poster my children are perfectly healthy and I was able to nurse part-time. I also took some medications during my first trimester and occasionally during pregnancy and after. I'll be happy to answer anything specific. Best of luck-judy

One of the great perks about pregnancy is that most people have considerably less anxiety once progesterone kicks in (usuually the second trimester). I'm sure you'll make a wonderful mother once you and your husband are ready. take care, judy
