Side effects to Effexor XR

Posted by tich on January 10, 2003, at 16:42:43

Could it be possible that I'm starting to get hives from Effexor XR a year after I began taking the medication? I've been getting hives for the past 5-6 weeks and can't figure out where they're coming from... If I were going to get an allergic reaction, wouldn't it start right away, or is it possible that it could build up in my body for months and THEN get a reaction??

Tich, suddenly getting hives from something you've been taking a med for one year does not sit right with me. Just doesn't make sense. There must be another culprit. An allergist would be able to help with that.
Over my lifetime I've gotten hives for no reason (as far as I could see). They drive you nuts if they are itchy, not to mention they look weird.
I'd advise waiting a bit to see if they resolve on their own but you've already done that.
It could be a million reasons: change in laundry soap comes to mind.
Hope I've helped,
JM

Thanks JM, I didn't think so myself. I have been to my doctor and he seems to think it's mandarin oranges, but I haven't eaten any for a couple of weeks and I'm still getting the hives. Effexor is one of the only things I consume on a daily basis (he thinks it's something I'm eating as opposed to a soap or detergent), and one of the side effects is hives, so I had to wonder...
