trazadone/concerta ?

Posted by e503 on November 22, 2002, at 18:54:16

My 12 year old daughter has ADD. She has been taking concerta for a while. She takes 54 mg./day. Also, a while ago we started to give her 50 mg. trazadone at bedtime, as she always had difficulty falling asleep and also has/had some anxiety (social). Anyways, it seems that the 54 mg. concerta is not working as well as it had been, her grades are down, she's pretty "Hyper" at school. JUst wondering if there is any possibility that the trazadone at night could be causing anything different to be happening with the concerta. Any one help???? The doc says her dosage is at at he high end and we are seeing him after the holidays, but in the meantime, her grades are horrible, and she seems quite impulsive to me. any ideas? thanks, elise

It's quite possible that Trazedone is causeing some of the problems. If they seemed to come back after the addition of Trazedone the you might try reducing it.

why would trazadone be causing some of the impulsivity, etc.? How long does it stay in your system? She is only taking 50 mg. at night. Can trazodone cause her to be impulsive, hyper?
'thanks,

While it does have a relativly short half life,
a few report anger, confusion, and hostility as side effects.

On another note, it may interact with the blood levels of Concerta. You may try 25 mg of Trazedone, sleep permitting - and see if this helps. If not, consider other treatments for ADD.

good Luck
