FISH OILS AND DEPRESSION - A VICTORY

Posted by freedom2001 on November 17, 2002, at 4:17:48

Hi, I have OCD and depression.

A doctor advice (Dr O Ed Neal?) me to take 5-10g of fish oils to combat the depressiona and OCD.

So I took 5000 mg of EPA and DHA (fish oils) and in a week, my depression was completely lifted. It is true. My conclusion is that fish oil effectively treats depression. There have been other reports of fish oils been used effectively to treat depression and OCD.

I just wish to share my own testimony as another successful case report of treating depression with fish oil. As for my OCD, I've improved a bit more but I'm not sure whether it's due to the addition of fish oils to my prozac or due to the augmentation of clonazepam at night.

I'm using the concentrated high form 1000 mg of capsule contains 500 mg EPA and 300 DHA. It's the amount of EPA and DHA in the capsule that matters, not the weight of the capsule.

3000-4000 g of EPA+DHA does not work in many cases. You need AT LEAST 5000 mg of EPA+DHA.

THANK YOU "Ed O Neal hearty?" doctor for your saving advice! I appreciate it greatly.

God bless
ALIVE

This fish oil does seem to work on many people. I started at only 1gm a day and found startling results within three days.

My doctor told me to stay on PROZAC until next January, but I stopped it cold when the fish oil kicked in a month ago and I have felt fine since.

I am 50 years of age and I have suffered with "nerves" since my early twenties. I now feel in control of my "nerves" more than at any time in the past twenty five years.

When you think that I had severe suicidal depression only last May/June that is remarkable.

It has also helped my dry skin and split finger ends which has been a problem for twenty years. Maybe there is a connection and I was deficient?

Anyone else found a link between dry skin and nerves? I know that sounds daft, but they say that red haired people feel more pain than black haired people, so physical things may relate to psychiatric things.

I am glad to hear that the depression and OCD have improved.I have seen improvement in skin conditions too-in fact skin ,arthritis and heart conditions are uncommon in Eskimos who live on fish. They get them at about 10% of the level found in Sweden and rarely suffer from depression.

When you say you take only 1 gram of fish oil per day do you mean 1 gram TOTAL (ie EPA and DHA combined) or 1 gram of EPA meaning that you would need to take a larger total amount of fish oil?

I am curious
