Paxil CR = Controlled withdrawl?

Posted by Jerrympls on November 4, 2002, at 23:35:28

I've read, heard and experienced the terrible effects of withdrawl from Paxil. It's the only SSRI I've had such terrible withdrawl. I've had pdocs tell me the withdrawl is because it doesn't have the long half-life like Prozac.

So, I was thinking - what's the deal with Paxil CR? It's already got a half-life that allows for once-daily dosing - why make an extended release? Perhaps I'm behind the times and this has already been discussed - but - is it most likely that the makers of Paxil made the CR version to lessen withdrawl symptoms (if one discontinues it) or am I just thinking too much?

It also has fewer side-effects.
