Effexor and weight loss supplements

Posted by calaway on September 24, 2002, at 22:13:33

I have been on effexor for just over 2 weeks now and am happy with the results so far. I would like to start taking some weight loss/training supplements. I've taken them in the past with Paxil with no ill effect and am wondering if any one has taken them with effexor. I would be taking an ephedra free type.

Any feedback would be great.

Calaway, I was considering the same thing. What supplement are you going to try? I'm about 5 days behind you on Effexor XR (75mgs). I've made it to the gym once and it was a struggle. Any problems with your energy level or being tired? Hopefully this is only a short term side effect for me.

Good luck-

Hey lucky,

I actually did try a phen-free (EAS brand) supplement today, and it went very well. I had a boost of energy, no jitter or racing heart beat. I was very happy with the results. I am taking a beginners running course and went for my run today and felt great. Lots of energy left over. I would wait until the side effect have subsided until you try a supplement and start with a ephedra free brand. I used to use the old formula (in canada it was taken off the shelves still available in states) of Zenadrine and loved the results, but again go for the ephedra free formula.

As for the effexor my side effects have disappeared. I personally find now that I have a ton of energy. I used to be on paxil and 9 days out of 10 I napped in the afternoon for at least and hour or two. Not only have I stopped napping, but the other day I cleaned house till 8:15pm. My husband is floor at the change in me. I do find that I still get irritated too easily, but my dr. wants to wait 2 more weeks before deciding to increase the dose.

Good luck

Hi Calaway,
Great to hear that you are having success with Effexor XR!! I get irritable too, but i think the effexor has reduced my irritableness overall. Did you experience being tired on effexor during the first couple of weeks? I used to take Xenadrine and it had the same effect on me(jittery and racing heart) so i am going to try the phen-free (EAS brand) that you're using. Hopefully I'll have a boost of energy soon as my wife is getting tired of me yawning and being tired all of the time. Take care and keep in touch!

Hi Lucky,

I was tired when I was on 37.5mg but now that I am on 75 I have energy to burn most days. I only slept 5 hours last night so I napped today, but usually if I get 8 hours sleep, I go strong all day. You might find when and if your Dr. increases your dose it might help.

I'm finding lately that the effexor no longer lasts the whole day. By 4ish I'm getting irritable and with a 3 and 5 year old running around irritability come easily enough as it is. I'm schedualed to see my Dr. some time late next week but we'll see, I my opt to go earlier if it becomes to bothersome.

However if you increase your dose and it doesn't help try something else. I was on Paxil for 5 years and thought that I was great, other than I gained 50lbs. But now that I am on effexor I see a huge difference in myself. I'm not craving sweets like I did (I actually went 4 days with out any sugar this week, never done that before) I don't sleep 2 hours every afternoon and 10 hours a night, I'm less irritable (and I thought I wasn't too bad before) I actually have a sex drive (I thought it was lost durring child birth) I've become organized again not only mentally but my house as well. My husband can hardly believe the difference in me.

I guess I thought the Paxil was working because I wasn't crying anymore and I've been on it so long that I forgot what it was like to be "normal". The only reason we changed now was that I couldn't take the weight gain anymore, I struggles daily and exercised tons with no results (I'm in better cardio and strenght shape now that I was 10 years ago, but weight 50lbs more). I think since I've started I've been able to exercise better and I'm even down 3lbs. So just remember effexor is not the only one out there if it's not working at making you feel "normal" again.

Keep me posted.
Calaway
