I am on my fifth day of the effexor starter kit and since I have started, I have been experiencing severe anxiety. My doc is weaning me off zoloft from 100 mg to 75mg (didn't do anything for mt postpartum depression/anxiety) and will wean each week by going down 25 mg. I am assuming the anxiety is due to the decrease in zoloft but thought that starting the effexor would take care of it. I don't want to throw in the towel this early with the effexor but am wondering when I may begin to feel some relief from the anxiety and depression. Any insight would be appreciated.

The efferxor SHOULD help with PPD...but takes longer than ..five days he/she should have told you this...ask for something fast acting for a couple days ...a week... A benzo..Ativan?....can you sleep? if no ask for ambien for a couple of days ...SNRI's like efforxor in some people DO work faster than typical but can take time to kick in...try to Hold on....( Breastfeeding if you have to show up in breast milk...but if you have to ..you have to take care of you.....1st..)..good luck..and congrats!!

Thanks for the info. Yes, I am taking 1 mg of ativan during the day to ease the anxiety and it is helping...I just hope I won't need it for long. Sleep is fine since I am taking 30 mg of Remeron and 25 mg of seroquel at night. Sadly, I weaned my baby at 5 months when all of this hell started.

**Just wanted to reply to this as I was prescribed Effexor for depression last year (I'm bipolar). The effect I got was so scary that I immediately stopped taking it (which you're not supposed to do--it's supposed to be a gradual thing). My experience with Effexor xr was severe gaps in memory. So severe I would forget directions to places I'd driven to regularly. Nothing like realizing you're hopelessly lost while enroute to the grocery store 3 blocks from home. *sigh* I do hope your experience is much better. Best of luck!

I found that effexor xr crept up on me. On the starter pack it helped my anxiety better than my depression, but everyone is different. Give it a few weeks, and hang in there. I had what I believe was a mild PPD that I never addressed. 2 years later I moved across the country, giving up my long standing job in favor of my husband's promotion. It still took me 2 more years to recognize my depression and get treated for it. You're doing the right thing! Keep us posted.
