I have been on reboxetine for 3weeks now taking 4mg twice per day and if anything I feel worse than when I started. Can anyone please tell me their experiences from reboxetine.

How are you worse? What were you feeling like before? How are you feeling now? What does your doctor say about your symptoms?

I started Reboxetine at 1/2 the recommended starting dose and got too wired. Didn't like it.

I am more depressed. Can't sleep, or eat, 8 migraines in the first 14days, crying nonstop. I am so weak I can't walk six steps without sitting down and have trouble picking up a litre of milk.

Most doctors will tell you that you must stay on antidepressants for a sufficient length of time at a therapeutic dosage in order to see whether the drug will be beneficial. You said you're on 8 mg a day, which is a therapeutic dosage for reboxetine. I don't know how long you'd have to stay on it. According to some of the information I've read on reboxetine, improvement can be seen as early as two weeks after starting, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be on it longer. The problem is, you seem to be experiencing such extreme discomfort that it would be good if you could discuss this with your doctor. Perhaps your response means that this is not the drug for you; on the other hand, if you can persevere WITHOUT ENDANGERING YOUR HEALTH, then perhaps you will start to feel better soon. You should discuss this with your psychopharmacologist.

What sort of antidepressants have helped you in the past? What were you on before Reboxetine? I ask because, as you probably know, Reboxetine is a norepineprhine reuptake inhibitor, so I wondered whether you had a good response to noradrenergic medications (desipramine/norpramin, maprotiline/ludiomil, bupropion/wellbutrin, stimulants, etc) in the past. If you have done well on some of the medicines I mentioned, then I think there might be hope for reboxetine yet. I don't know what country you live in, but here in the United States, it's difficult to get ahold of reboxetine because it's not FDA-approved, so I think that if you're in the U.S. and your doctor and you went to the trouble to get it from overseas, your doctor must have had a good reason for prescribing it. As long as you're not endangering your health (for example, as long as your blood pressure and heart rate are within normal limits, etc.), it might be worth persevering a bit longer.

I live in Australia so there wasn't a problem getting the Reboxetine. I have been on toffranil, tryptanol, sinequan, prozac, zoloft, lithium, tegratol, zyban, epilum, effexor, aurorix, aropax, zyprexa, serzone, luvox, avanza, remeron, prothiodine, cipramil, dothep, lumin, wellbutrin, dothep, mellerill, thioridazine, zactin, largactil, clopixol inj, risperadol, serequol, clozapine, lovan, allegron and probably a few more that I have forgotten, and all up to the highest doses over a period of nearly 17years and not 1 of them has done anything for my depression. Whats left?

Hi Mischief,
Like so many of us here, it looks as if you've been put through the ringer. I'm familiar with most of the meds you listed, but the proprietary (brand) names of a few of them were new to me. Were there any meds in that list that you felt were helpful? Or, was there any one med that was "the least of the evils"? How did you do on Wellbutrin? I see you were on Zyban and Wellbutrin, which are one and the same, I believe.
I found Wellbutrin to be very activating. Did it help your depression? What were you on right before you started Reboxetine?By the way, in a previous post you mentioned that you were getting "migraines." Have you ever had
migraines before, or did they start with Reboxetine? When you see your pdoc on Thursday, be sure to mention the headaches and all the other side effects. I think that the decision to stay on any of these meds ultimately turns out to be a decision regarding costs vs. benefits. Are you getting enough out of the med to justify the side effects? Right now, it seems as if you're only having side effects and few, if any, benefits. I think you should tell your pdoc everything you've told us so you can be sure the reboxetine side effects are not dangerous.I've read some good things about reboxetine, but it seems that there aren't that many people on this site who've tried it; perhaps that's because it's so difficult to obtain it in the U.S.
By the way, are you on any other medicines that might be interfering with reboxetine? And, have you had a thorough physical exam recently to rule out any medical conditions that could be contributing to your problems?

Hi,
As I said before none of them have ever done anything for me. As I live in Australia I was only on the Zyban for giving up smoking and that's all it is used for here and only for two weeks and a once of so it did help me give up smoking even though I have started again but only being on it two weeks it wouldn't have had time to work on depression. I was on Effexor XR before the Reboxetine and the side effects from
them were really extreme plus again it did not help my depression. I have been having migraines since I was seven but never as often as I have had them lately. As far as cost goes that isn't a problem as I don't know how it works in the US but here if you are on a pension you only pay $3.60AUS for a month supply of 1 type of medication. I am not getting any benefits from any medications. I don't understand why not 1 tablet has ever done anything for me when I read other peoples posts here some meds. for some people can start to work within 24hrs. No I am not on any other meds and have had all the tests many times and from there results I am in perfect health. I will probably live until I am 110 but be sick every day of my life. I have also had two sets of ECT 6 unilateral last December and 12 bilateral in May.Thankyou very much to all the people who have taken the time to post back to me I really appreciate it as I feel so alone and I just don't know where to go from here as I have tried everything now and I can't take this depression anymore as it not living it even takes all my energy just to breathe and I don't do anything else.

There are three different chemicals that AD's work
on that's right I think. Is there any test they can do to see which one is inbalanced? It is probably a stupid question as I am sure they would do this before they put you on medications but since the last round of ECT my brain doesn't work quite right.Thanks

No, there are no tests. You need to try and see if a particular medication works for you or not.Did you try moclobemide (Aurorix,Manerix). It is a safe MAOI that works on all the three chemicals (dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin).
It has been the real solution to my chronic depression and migrene.cem
