Does anyone see a psych nurse practitioner?

Or just psychiatrists?

I do, and I LOVE her! She is great. She prescribes me the drugs that she is very familiar with, and never hesitates to ask the psychiatrist on call when she isn't sure of something. I like that she feels comfortable admitting that she's not an expert on every aspect of every drug, instead of just guessing (I think alot of MD's do that, but maybe I'm just paranoid and not taking quite enough Zyprexa). I feel like she is a better listener than many MD's are. Also, she is very available to me and always returns calls within a couple of hours.

Anyway, I think that with the growing shortage of psychiatrists in this country, more and more of us will start to see nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists in the near future. And, not that I have anything against doctors, but I think that it is a good thing because it means more individualized care. That's my two cents, anyway!

Cheers,
Dane =)

PS [Shameless Plug] In case anyone is wondering, I have a Kaiser Permanente HMO plan and the mental health benefits and providers are really great!!!
