Question about Marijuana???

Posted by JonW on July 29, 2002, at 19:51:30

Hi,

I've only smoked pot 3 or 4 times in my life and I've always been curious about how it affected me once. Everytime except once I found it did next to nothing... I mean it was kind of like Xanax but better which isn't exactly to say nothing. It made life very smooth and happy in other words. Anyway, one time at a party I smoked whatever this other kid was smoking and it knocked me on my ass! I mean literally, it wasn't a choice, I was on the ground, on my ass looking at the ceiling, stoned I guess... I mean, is that what being stoned is because it felt like a ton of bricks being dropped on my brain and I was happy about it. I have severe social phobia and I told everyone my most embarassing moment in life and I took an hour doing it. Anyway, I just can't believe marijuana is as strong a drug as this experience was. My words don't capture it, it truly kicked my ass! Of course, I've also been on anti-depressants, etc. so maybe there was an interaction? And of course I was pretty drunk at the time, but that was true every other time I smoked.

Anyhow, for you stoners out there, is this a typical experience of smoking pot?

Thanks,
Jon

yeah, lots of people smoke pot to manage anxiety but dont realize what they are doing. Most dont even realize they have any anxiety or depression problems. They are too stupid to realize that "hey I dont feel good" maybe I should work out more or maybe I should go get checked out.

Also lot of people use pot (and booze too) for social phobia (shyness). When youre stoned or drunk, you can be friendly and extroverted with anybody.

typical experience? I wouldnt know as I dont smoke pot. However all the stoners I ever knew, the ones who smoked the stuff regularly...were total losers. They are the ones who end up in jail for petty crimes, drop out of high school and join the army at 17 and get kicked out on a dishonorable discharge, they are the ones who get on "da welfare," they are the ones who get married at age 18, have a couple kids who grow into hooligans and then they are divorced by 30. Typically they live in a trailer park. Usually have a couple tattoos too.

Basically, most stoners are the sorts of losers you see on the Jerry Springer show.

In a loving voice Jon says, "yeah, so that doesn't answer my question... but thanks for the drug talk!" ;-)

Yeah, I decided a year ago to give up drinking altogether. It's not so bad after you get used to it and it definitely made the decision to try an MAOI an easier one. I'm not necessarily anti-drug but clean and sober is definitely for me -- not that I had a problem or anything. Drugs and alcohol get in the way of anti-depressants and mental health and life in general. I suppose some people can justify their use but if you have a mental illness your case is a much more difficult one.

I am not certain there is a typical experience. I am a regular consumer when I can obtain it. For what it is worth, here is what I have observed:

- There are many, many varieties; and little quality control, as one would expect from an illegal substance (unless one has the good fortune to be, for example, in Amsterdam). Some m. might indeed knock a fellow on his buttocks, and some might hardly produce a noticeable effect.

- Those who claim negative psychological effects from m., such as paranoia, tend to be afraid of drugs in general, or of "losing control" in front of others.

- Those who claim m. has no effect tend not to be smokers and so do not in fact inhale all that much.

- Heavy drinkers tend to claim both of the above. All "dedicated stoners" that I have known drink in moderation or not at all, and would always prefer a toke or two over a jigger or two.

- Anti-depressants do not seem to interfere with m. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that m. goes well with anything.

- Group dynamics are always much, much improved when all are stoned. We are all familiar with the belligerent drunk, or the morose drunk, but a chap who smokes a bit too much m. usually falls on buttocks and giggles, or at worst is nauseous (the occasional "bad trip"). I never had such fine times at parties as when one and all were well and truly stoned.

- M. seems to function as a moderate anti-depressant and anti-anxiety agent; it is known for greatly reducing social anxiety; I also find it powerfully enhances music listening.

- Smoking a joint tends give one the "hit" up front and at high strength. Smoking through a water-pipe, ie. a bong, produces a more even, mellower high. I prefer bongs at parties, and joints when alone and listening to music.

- In short, depending on the m., whether you've eaten, how much you inhale, and so forth, your experience could vary from virtually nothing, to easy social interaction, to wild giggling, to knocked out flat on your back: all of which are quite pleasant, actually.

I emphasize that this is merely a rough summation of my own experiences over 15 years or so.

Hope this helps,
Mr Beev

I was on several meds and smoked marijuana off and on for 2 years and then several times a day for about 8 months until the unfortunate happened. So no smoking for 12 months. I was taking about 4 meds and I only smoked the best I could find and there were times where I was totally lost and other times I could smoke all day and be fine, I think most of it depended who I was around. I zoned out when too may people were around. I am on Nardil now and have been for 6 months. I havent read anything about negative reactions with marijuana and Nardil. Mostly other prescriptions and amphetimines. Ive been sober for almost 9 months so I dont if I'll try it again or not. If I do I will be more careful and also not smoke allday everyday.

Thanks guys! (nm)

Hi, I just wanted to say that I've smoked de ganja for 11 years now (basically every day) and while I admit it has impared my short-term memory somewhat, I am a homeowner, a taxpayer, and a productive member of society. I do not live in a trailer park nor does my house have wheels attached to it. I have never been arrested, gotten a speeding ticket, or accepted any kind of public assistance (other than subsidized student loans). Please take into consideration the source of the info before taking it to heart. "LostBoyinNC1" is clearly not in a coherant state--just look at his cute little "F*** the whole wide world" post below. This guy is not well and I can only hope that he really does stop posting here as he says he will.

Peace,
Dane

Use your brain. Marijuana is just like any other drug. It depends on what kind, the strength, and the individual. I've worked in the medical field for 11 years now, and I have MANY doctor friends who smoke pot to help them relax. A few of those doctors don't like the effect of beer (besides, alcohol is addicting and can cause unwanted side effects). The ONLY reason that marijuana is illegal, is because the government can't control the money from it. If marijuana was legalized, the CIA wouldn't have access to BILLIONS of dollars to pretend that they're fighting "war on drugs". The government would loose major bucks. Marijuana was widely used in such drugs as Piso's Cure (look it up on the net) until 1935. It was a perfectly respectable drug until the government decided that they couldn't get their money from it. As to your experience with marijuana, think about it. What happens if you drink a wine cooler as oppossed to drinking a bottle of vodka? They're both alcohol. THINK. As a mother of two children growing up in a violent world, I suggest that marijuana be legalized. I believe that there would be less violence if people were allowed to relax after the stress of the modern world. People who use alcohol to try to unstress are opening themselves up to an addictive drug and potentially violent reaction. How many bar room fights have you heard of in your life-time? I'll bet you can't even count them. Ever heard of even ONE fight between pot smokers? Marijuana has a relaxing effect on all people. The more that you injest, the mellower that you become. You will eventually fall asleep, not causing anyone any problems. The only side effect known to marijuana smokers is, they tend to put on weight. You can not die from over-use. You can die from alcohol. As to Xanax, that is an addictive drug, and I do not use addictive drugs. I care about what I put in the orfices of my body.
