I don't want to die taking zyprexa

Posted by borderliner21 on January 23, 2002, at 1:17:53

Has anyone ever died while taking zyprexa before? I heard of some cases where people died from taking old anti-psychotics such as thorazine. What are the odds with zyprexa? I know it is rare but I seem to get all of the rare side effects from psychotropic drugs. (paxil gave me dystonia and tardive dyskenesia) , I also experienced the oddest of side effects on benzodiazephines and had to stop taking them.

What type of "odd" side-effects did you experience on benzodiazepines?

Dear Borderliner,

You will be perfectly safe while taking Zyprexa, and here's why:

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Zyprexa has been prescribed to over 6 million patients in 84 countries worldwide since its market entry in 1996.

TARDIVE DYSKINESIA AND PARKINSONISM
During clinical trials of Zyprexa Extrapyramidal symptoms and their severity were evaluated and recorded at all visits using the Simpson-Angus Scale (parkinsonism) and the Barnes Akathisia Scale. These scales demonstrated no differences between ZYPREXA and placebo. Anticholinergic use was infrequent in both the groups treated with ZYPREXA and placebo.

LAST NOTE
Overall, ZYPREXA is not disruptive to daily routines for most patients in that it can be taken once daily, on empty or full stomach, and ***does not require routine blood monitoring***.

zyprxa, remeron, ativan combo

I have been on 60mg of remeron for nearly 3 years. I started seeing a new Doc, and he diagnosed me as having manic episodes. His response was 15mg of zxprexa in addition to the remeron. It seem that the zyprexa has helped with my manic fits, yet it leaves me felling like I am dragging ten sandbags around with me when I get out of bed the next day. His goal is to pull me off the ativan (2mg 2-3 times a day) and continue me on remeron and zprexa alone. I don't know if I can handle the zyprexa though, It really leaves my feeling quite 'heavy' in the morning. Will the side effect of feeling this way diminish? Is this a good combo for bi-polar disorder?

Hi,

Can't you try decreasing the dose to 10mg and take it at about 15:00 in the afternoon, I always found that I felt better the next day if I took the Zyprexa at around 16:00 the previous day.
