My pdoc suggests I try risperdal or zyprexa for my mania.
Does anyone have experience with these two meds and do you know what the differences or benefits may be of either one of these?
I think he wants me to do the zyprexa as a 'stand alone' med- where as the risperdal may be in addition to something else??
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Hi,
I found risperdal much more stimulating (which definitely is not the effect you want when manic). Zyprexa does work well as monotherapy, just please keep an eye out for EPS- which pdocs claim aren't common in the atypicals (but has happened to me and others on the board). Take care, judy

Dear Hildi,
I've been on both. Risperdal is a great drug in combo w/ others. I refer to Risperdal as my friend. I was recently on Zyprexa and it makes you FAT! I gained seventeen pounds and climbing in a very short time. Because of that I'm now on Seroquel which seems to be working very well. Good luck to you and keep trying.

I took risperdal only 2 mg and had such seizure that I had no idea what was going on with me. I was so agitated that I could not sit and wanted to throw at the car to kill myself I could not stand that state although I got benzos. After this I was forced by hospital quack dock to take it still I had psycho stomachaches racing negative thoughts- suicidal thoughts started.
i do not want to scare anybody it really helps some people but my coleague from hospital told me that he took risperdal for anxiety and he was so anxious like never before. he said the worst ever- he was affraid of his mother.I took zyprexa as an augument to Zoloft and it saved my life today i am cutting this to 1.25 mg of Zyprexa I want to quit it as it is antipsychotic but I have depression only - i think I got it on risperdal and even if not from risperdal I hate it!!!!!
