Hi. I just started 'regular' effexor yesterday- dr. will probably put me on the 'extended version' if this one works for me.
I felt like I took a sleeping pill, otherwise I felt fine on it. No agitation or anxiety, but a very dry mouth. I couldn't stay awake- had to sleep! Today, still sleepy. Does this incredible sleepiness go away?

> HildiHI! I AM NOW GETTING OFF OF EFFEXOR BUT WHEN I FIRST STARTED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I JUST STARTED TAKING IT AT BEDTIME SO SLEEPY TIME WAS BASICALLY OVER WHEN I GOT UP AND IT WILL LESSEN AS YOU GET USED TO THE MEDS.

Hi Carrie. Thanks for the reply. Did you take the 'regular' effexor? Only once a day? What was the dose? The dr. says to take this twice a day because this med has a short half-life, but I don't like the idea of being this sleepy all day.
I'm curious to see if the regular stuff works with once a day-dosing.
Sounds like you don't like effexor much. How long were you on it? Did you get any benefit at all, or was it all side effects?
Good wishes on your quitting. I tapered off very slowly when I quit my zoloft, but I still felt pretty crappy. I hope your dizziness goes away quickly for you.

Did you take it in the morning? Try taking it at night, or at noontime.
When I was taking the immediate release (tablet) Effexor, it made me sleepy if I took it in the morning, gave me insomnia if I took it at night, and worked perfectly if I took it in the early afternoon as one lump dose.
