What DO I suffer from. and AP's work best for me?

Posted by adamie on May 28, 2002, at 23:38:13

out of all the meds with except of possibly paxil although hard to remember how i did on it...
i have done best on zyprexa and risperdal. i dunno what my real illness is. i got some sort of depressive illness but the thing is aside from the usual symptoms, no interests, no motivation, pessimism, everything dark, no appetite, little concentration, i have what many people wouldn't even know what i am talking about. i get severe mind torture. like not only would i not be able to enjoy life and everything is all dark but... it would actually be horrendously painful to be alive. and when i get this mind torture my head would also be burning. like my brain is in heat and burning. does anyone feel that for them it is trully painful to be alive? not from sadness i mean, i mean in mental pain that attacks you or comes over you and you cant control it one bit.

and i dunno what can treat this mind torture and 'depression symptoms' i also get a lot of anxiety. sometimes too much to handle. turning on the tv might be scary. omg what is going to be on tv. what if nothing good is on ahh. should i sit in the big chair or watch tv from my comp chair. ahh. just an example of how anxiety takes over my mind. i have to try and ignore it because it's all irrational.

anyone have any idea why anti psychotics have worked best for me? zyprexa was so livable until the second time i went on it it made me sleepy like hell every moment of the day and risperdal started to turn evenings into hell. days would be okay but evenings omg how horrendous.

Since you mentioned that you have a lot of anxiety (which tends to go hand-in-hand with depression), AP's may work well because they are in the 'major tranquilizer' class as opposed to minor tranqulizers such as benzos. If you have had success with them and are not having psychotic symptoms, have you tried benzos (xanax et al) and if so, were they helpful? Take care, Judy

Sounds like you may present with a-typical psychosis. You may want to talk to your pdoc about the drug-Thioridazine(Mellaril).

Has been found to have cardiac side-effects. There are much safer atypicals around. Take care, Judy

i am on ativan 1.5mg a day. at first it seemed to make me less suicidal. and going off it once due to running out of supply caused me to feel suicidal i think the day after. i guess that was the dependence. i dunno how much if at all the ativan helps now.

Hi,
Dependence is a state that forms on many meds- AP's, AD's, not just benzos. Xanax is often helpful with not only anxiety but depression. I would suggest trying it since it has much less side-effects than AP's, and is not linked to EPS (like shaking, etc.) Hope this helps- judy
