Please explain augmentation

Posted by chiron on May 2, 2002, at 17:45:33

Is it used to to amplify the effect of a certain symptom, or for the relief of another?

Prozac gives me a little "pull" out of the deep, but I still have depression. Also need energy & motivation, but my first concern is the depression.

chiron, Doesn't sound like Prozac is doing much, correct? What dose are you on and for how long? Have you tried other AD's? We need more info.
Phil

Yes, prozac only has minimal effectiveness for me. I have been on & off it since my youth. (my body also now freaks if I take it on an empty stomach).
During the year of 2001, I was on Effexor & Wellbutrin. If it helped- it was not enough! (I quit my job & moved back home) I have also tried Paxil & Serzone. I recently tried Zyprexa for a week, but it didn't seem to help, and I am too fearful of the weight-gain problem.
Thx.

I have taken a stimulant with every drug combo I've taken. If it wasn't for Ritalin then and Adderall now to augment, Paxil wouldn't have done it alone, or Celexa or any of the rest. I was hyper when I was younger but if I had ADD, it was the type that spaces out, staring outside at the trees instead of listening to the teacher.
You might talk to your doctor about Adderall XR
depending on where you are. It's time released, good med. If I was a dr, that's what I would do.
A friend of mine works with a paramedic that was the first person, 40 years ago, to be put on Ritalin in the Dallas ISD. He's 40 now, still taking it, doing very well. My friend told me he was as down to earth and a good guy. If you're doc won't do a stim, then maybe Wellbutrin again.
If that fails, maybe Zoloft. If none of the SSRI's help. My next guess would be Nortriptyline, a tricyclic.
