Sometimes when I read some of these articles I get discouraged because they elucidate the complete and overwhelming complexity of the human body. We have so much yet to learn, I don't know if we'll ever figure it out.

I do appreciate you posting the articles however.

Yeah it does. One of them is called a "CRF-Antagonist" and will purportedly work by blocking excess cortisol levels. Excess cortisol levels as seen in some cases of severe depression is claimed to basically "burn out the brain" of severe depressives, resulting in severe depression. Corticosteroids cause all sorts of damage to your body and in excess amounts when you are under chronic stress, this can result in brain burnout and literally subtle brain damage, which results in major depression.

Cortisol blocking drugs maybe some of the antidepressants of the future. Keep in mind that the explanation I gave above is extremely, ridiculously oversimplified, I just tried to give a quick and dirty laymans explanation.

Thanks,

What are the symptoms of excess Cortisol levels. I asked my Doctor about having them checked but he told me that I had none of the symptoms, one of them being an enlarged face. Is this true?

The only formally accepted disease with hyper levels of cortisol that I know of is Cushings disease. Also, Ive read people with AIDS have hyper cortisol levels and this is a component of the body wasting AIDS patients go thru. There is a drug in development which is called "Anti-Cort" and its being developed for Cushings as well as AIDS. But I read that if it is ever FDA approved the company will begin researching the drug to be used in some depressive disorders. There used to be a website for Anti-Cort, I dont know if there still is.

Dont count on it though...its a wild card...shot in the dark. But interesting trivia to know if you are in this boat of having severe depression.
