ssri psychostimulant combinations -Success?

Posted by Dennison on January 2, 2002, at 21:02:23

Hi Anyone have an initial poor response on an ssri, then add a psychostimulant, ritalin or dexedrine , then do really well. Another scenario being on an ssri and wellbutrin, and doing poorly then adding the psychostimulant, to that combination, either ritalin or dexedrine. I'm considering beginning these possible regiments is why I ask!!! :):) Ok Thanks :)

This is an easy one to try, since the stimulants work right away. Not sure I'd rush to add a stimulant to Wellbutrin, though, since both can cause anxiety. Have you taken stims w/o an ssri?

Yes. I didn't have a poor response to the SSRI, but couldn't tolerate the dosage needed to sufficiently address the depression. Stimulant meds boosted the effects of the ADs. I started on ritalin, then ritalin sr, now on adderall, which I like much better than the ritalins.

Pemoline is the only stimulant that is not highly-controlled and has modest vigilance effects--thus you might be able to take it and avoid overstimulation or anxiety.

I take 40mg celexa, 50mg desipramine and 60mg adderal - I love this combo...

Zoloft counteracted effectiveness of my Ritalin

I used to take Ritalin 20 mg 2x per day. It worked great for focusing, much better than adderall, dexedrine. But when I started Zoloft 100 mg it interacted with the Ritalin and made me 'dumb as a brick' & numb in the head.
