I am having bouts of feeling hostile and frustrated. Is this from the Zyprexa I added to my Celexa? I take 2.5 Zyprexa in the evening to help with sleep and AD augmentation.
I generally have a short fuse, and was hoping the Zyprexa would lessen it. I have only been on it a week. Does Z need time to "kick in?" I thought it was helping me, but today I had a return of anger and suicidal thoughts. Should I stick with this???

Some but not most, people find Zyprexa to be a little agitating. My own experience is that Zyprexa good qualities can be seen within the firast week while it may take 2-3 weeks for side effects to wear off. It really should calm your hostility in time. You may also want to consider a slightly higher dose. I started out with the standard augmenting dose of 2.5 mg but eventually worked my way up to 7.5 mg for full benefits. Since then I have been very happy with the results.

Thanks for you helpful post.
However, I am totally confused why I would feel more edgy on a drug that is notorious for knocking people out!
I keep thinking I should quit this med after 8 days since I am not sleep well anymore and do feel I have a short fuse.
But, there are some things I like about this med. I don't know how to describe it, but when I am not edgy, I feel quite "good."
My pdoc is of little use here. She is leaving it up to me to choose what to do.
I am a little worrried about increasing the dose, because if I have a bad reaction, this drug has a very long half life!
So, Chris, do I understand you correctly, that you were a bit agitated in the beginning with Zyprexa, but with time and dosage increase, you found the edginess went away? Also, have you had increase in appetite, and has that abated too?Thank you SO much for you response.

I had a very good reaction to Zyprexa from the start. I was merely pointing out that there have been instances of others here who have told stories of agitation from Zyprexa. I started Zyprexa due to overwhelming thoughts of death and suicide. I could not think clearly through these thoughts and once I started Zyprexa they subsided within a short time. It has always been calming to me.
I did gain 60-70 lbs when I started on Zyprexa. The weight gain leveled off by itself after about 6 months. It was mainly due to an increased apetite. As far as losing the weight see my posts in the thread just above here regarding weight gain and Pamalor.
I do believe that people can maintain their weight on Zyprexa by fighting off the extra snack urges with extra water or carrots or something besides chocolate and potato chips (my downfall). Also keep excersizing.
If the weight gain is a big concern you may want to think about trying Geodon (a Zyprexa cousin). I tried it but couldn't sleep so I went back to the Z aftera couple of months trial. Others find it very beneficial.

After 8 days, I know Zyprexa is not for me. I have been extremely volatile and I am finding that I am clenching my teeth all the time.
I will miss the improved sleep and increased mood and energy. Oh well, another on the trash heap.
BTW, Geodon did work out either. I haven't had much luck at all with the atypicals...T
