Nardil

Posted by Sherry on August 17, 2001, at 19:42:51

Hi All,

I've been taking Nardil for the past 4 days. I have to say that it feels like I've been taking one of the ssri's in the way that it is causing me so much anxiety. I started at 2 pills twice a day, and today I took 2 pills this morning and 1 at lunch. No insomina or anything like that just a wired up feeling. I have heart palpitations and terrible anxiety after eating that usually goes away in about an hour. Is this normal, and do you guys think this will go away? Please, I need your input.

Sherry, I'm not a meds expert but it seems like starting you on 60mg may have been way to high. I would go back to 30mg (just 2 pills a day) for at least a week and see if you can fully adjust to it, before moving up to 45 mg and seeing how you're doing on that. Nardil is not known for causing anxiety, but YMMV. I would definitely go slower though. I was on nardil for many years and my normal dose was 30-45mg.

Hi Shelli,

I had the same thoughts about the dose being too high. All serotonin medications wire me up especially at first. Even serzone did that. I will go lower and see what happens. Thanks for responding; I thought maybe nobody was going to.

Sherry,

I tried Nardil about 15 years ago and I experienced the greatest time of my life on it! Unfortunately, it pooped out after about four months and subsequent trials were largly unsuccessful. I started at a much lower dose than you, I believe it was just 15mg. Within three weeks it magically kicked in. I would start with a lower dose, increase weekly and stay the course for at least a month. Good luck. I sure hope it works for you.
