The above is a link that Pennie Lane posted explaining. I had a difficult time also at first, but in hindsight it was easy. Does that make any sense? You'll need to check your email because they will mail a code to you that at some point you need to enter.
Try a dry run signing up when you have time. Once you do get in, there is a point where it will ask you if you would like the computer to remember you password. I recommend doing this so next time you can go directly to chat.
If you need anymore help just ask. You may get a quicker response at the social board as their are more frequent users of the chat there.
