Effexor and no sex drive is it temporary?

Posted by gldngodess on July 31, 2001, at 20:19:38

I am taking 300mg Of Effexor. I am a woman. I want my sex drive back.
What can I take to counteract that side effect?
Ever since I have been on it, it seems I am not as sensitive in my clitoral area and sex almost seems like it is too much trouble sometime. It is not that I am too tired either, its difficult to explain.
What can I take with the Effexor to make me want my husband like I used to.
I feel indifferent about sex now. I tried having some wine and alcohol does nothing to me. It use to alittle bit.
What do women take to help them? Please help if you know.

Mirtazapine gives me my sex drive back while on Venlafaxine, Clomipramine, and Fluoxetine:

Hello there, I am a living testimony (lol) that wellbutrin restored my sexual function. I too, was extremely disappointed that I could not have an orgasm at all when I was on the effexor.(even if you beat me down there with a hammer I would not have felt it--can ya relate??) He had temporarily taken me off of wellbutrin. Well, I just could not handle this side effect. My dh was driving me bananas. So he added the wellbutrin back and whammo---I was my old self again. I told this to my aunt. She is on an old tri-cyclic and therefore cannot take wellbutrin. So her doc gave her viagra--yes---viagra. But can you believe her insurance would not cover it? Bless her heart, it would have been 300 bucks. Know what she did? She got 2 LOL!!! And she said it was the best sex ever! HAHAHA Best of luck to you,
Anna, tired but still sexual mom to 3 wonderful kids under age 4-1/2

Oye!

Is this ever the case with Effexor. My pdoc switched me to Wellbutrin because of this side effect. Of course he had to replace the seratonin action with Celexa.....

I've been amazed to read many times here that Effexor knocks out a woman's sex drive and ability to acheive orgasm. Being a gay male I have little experience with female sexuality (smile).

I know that when I began reducing the dose of Effexor and I began taking the Wellbutrin my sexual functioning returned. So if you need to remain on the Effexor, adding Wellbutrin might be the trick.

It is important to note that this does not work for everybody. I've read that some people in here have sexual problems while being on Wellbutrin. Another case of "one size does NOT fit all." *sigh*

Hi..
I must join the club. Effexor made me "numb." (I am female also) BUT...I have been on Wellbutrin SR 100mg for about 4 weeks and I see a BIG improvement! I experienced an orgasm for the first time in months the other night!!

Debbie
