I was prescribed and am taking a small dosage of zyprexa every day and 25mg seroquel at bedtime - I was told that both were to treat depression and anxiety. The trouble is, they leave me feeling a bit tired and blunted. Worse yet, I'm a young guy and my sex drive has decreased considerably - this is on my mind constantly.
I wanted to know if any other males have had similar experiences on these particular meds and if you were able to change to another med with less of an effect on libido.

The potential benefit you may receive from these drugs totally outweighs whatever sexual dysfunction you perceive. I have rarely heard of sexual complaints on Zyprexa or Seroquel, too.

These drugs are not primarily designed to treat either depression or anxiety but rather psychosis and dementia (as far as Seroquel is concerned). Normally a doctor would have prescribed an SSRI but that would still kill your sex drive. Drugs that are less likely to affect libido and performance are benzodiazepines (for anxiety) and atypical anti-depressants like Wellbutrin and Serzone( they are the most famous but there are others I am not as familliar with)for depression. I'm not sure the benefits necessarily outweighs the difficulties incured. That's up to you to determine. But these are certainly not the only drugs availlable and not even the most commonly prescribed (unless your depression has a psychotic element to it which probably isn't the case if you're taking low doses.)

Thank you very much for the feedback. I’m glad to hear that other options are available. For the time being, I have decided to stop taking meds in order to clean my system, feel more like myself again, and to return to a normal sex-drive/functioning. The last part’s been sort of eating away at me over the past couple of days.
More Questions - should I expect difficulty coming off of the drugs, even at low dosages? And secondly, for people who have been in similar positions, how long does it take for the drive and functioning to return?
I have had a lot of success w/ talk-therapy in the past and I have just started taking meds this summer. I'm hoping to return to psychosocial therapy once I'm back to feeling “normal.”
Again, all feedback is very much appreciated.

You should get back to normal pretty quickly but don't forget depression affects libido too. The time it takes for things to get back to normal depends on your meds' half-life (it's 6 or 7 hours for Seroquel and about one day for Zyprexa) However, you were prescribed these drugs in the first place for a reason. I have never heard about withdrawal symptoms for APs but they probably cause them because most drugs that modify brain chemestry produce some form of withdrawal symptom. If they occur at all, they should be minimal if you were only taking a small dose. But be careful and remember that you should inform your doctor that you have decided to drop the APs.
