fibromyalgia and antidepressants

Posted by monkglen on July 26, 2001, at 14:47:52

Hi,
I have FMS, for years, and was on Prozac for years, then my HMO stopped paying for Prozac and I started on Paxil (gained 35 pounds) and finally due to sexual side effects stopped the Paxil. I didn't have too bad a withdrawal on either. Then I felt the need to be back on an antidepressant and started Effexor XR and thought it was wonderful for the first three or four days--what a trip, I thought--and then I noticed some FMS-like pains. I got to thinking and it seems my FMS and my Prozac use started about the same time (anyone experience this?) and when I'd gotten off everything and on a CPAP machine my FMS symptoms went away (amazing), but back onto an antidepressant like Effexor XR and now the pain is back, plus it feels like my nerves are sore. What gives? I read earlier threads about pain and Effexor in FMS.

I'm going to see a new doctor next week. I'm at a total loss about what to do. I think to get off everything and see again how that goes.

But...the blahs and depression are really a bad deal too.

Any feedback will be appreciated.
