I will certainly pray for you. I have to tell you that up until a year or so ago I was totally ignorant about mental illness (I hate that term). But I suffered a severe, acute onset of postpartum depression of which I have recently relapsed due to what is thought to be an underlying depressive disorder. I never imagined the hell that it would be. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to go thru. Now, when I think of the horrible suffering that people experience it breaks my heart. Every Sunday at church I pray for all those who suffer from mental disorders. Good luck to you!!

Dear Jason,

I will pray for you, yes. You have tried so many medications...do you also see a therapist who you can talk to about your life? I also have unipolar depression and OCD and I take Effexor. But it would not work for me without having someone to talk to...

Hoping you find health and contentment,

Diane J.

SalArmy4Me, you are in my thoughts and prayers. You sound so defeated, which I can understand, given all those meds you listed that you've tried. I hope your trek to Mexico is successful and not too much of a hardship. Do you live near the border of Mexico (I do and if I was up to it, I'd go down there and get the Reboxetine for you!)

Keep us updated on how you are faring. All the best.

Sal:

What about VNS? Apparently people who respond to ECT seem to also respond to VNS. It doesn't have memory loss associated with it.

Bob, have you had VNS procedure? pdoc recommened I looked into it as a possiblity, local U doing study, so first equipment and battery and surgery would be free and also because some pdoc recommend ECT to me, but I can't bear the thought of the surgery.

As a child I went to many different Sunday schools, the most memorable one being way out in the middle of nowhere. It was a white church. For some reason a picture of Jesus with children and lambs in a meadow sticks out in my mind when I think of this church.
I haven't talked to Him in a long time, but tonight I'll thank Him for helping you out as you have helped many of us.

BEST WISHES, on your journey!

Susan:

I came very close to getting into a study near where I live, but did not quite fit the protocol requirements. There is a chance of another study starting there, and I will try again if the opportunity arises. I admit, the surgery is scary, and I have my reservations... but when I think about all the pain I've had going on and off medecines - withdrawl, side-effects, non-response etc... I don't have much to lose. It is supposedly a relatively low risk surgery, and I've heard good things about it. Of course, I'm sure that less-than-stellar outcomes wouldn't be highly publicized as of yet, since it has not been FDA approved for depression. It's an unknown, so it is a very hard decision, but ECT does NOT warm the cockels of my heart. The remainder of my life spent with these aimless drug trials is not very consoling either. If this board, or my experience for that matter, is representative of the population-at-large for refractory depression, than I feel that pharacological treatments have a long way to go.

I didn't know that. How'd it go?

fluoxetine
sertraline
paroxetine
buspirone
nefazodone

bupropion
mirtazapine
nortriptyline
amoxapine

phenelzine
tranylcypromine
isocarboxazid
selegiline

valproate (as Depakote)
lithium carbonate
lamotrigine
gabapentin

pemoline
methylphenidate
d-amphetamine
mixed amphetamine salts (Adderall)

olanzapine
risperidone
quetiapine
thioridazine
molindone
droperidol (don't ask)

pindolol
propranolol
atenolol
clonidine

clonazepam (still using)
diazepam
alprazolam
chlordiazepoxide

estazolam
temazepam
zolpidem (still using)

buprenorphine (still using ad hoc)

Minor tranquilizers?
Could you have PTSD? (painful flashbacks and all?)

*blink* You went to my church as a child?
In wisconsin?
It's a little white church in the middle of nowhere, the sunday school is a separate building.
And at the front of the church, on the left, is a pictre of jesus with children in a meadow. Ohwait, it might be sheep too. I'm not sure anymore.

Sounds very similar. :)

You have always been there for everyone on this board, always coming up with good links and suggestions. We are also here for you.

Also, I was surpised to hear you haven't used Klonopin. It has a pretty good anti-dread, Anti-psychological pain, Anti-OCD, antianxiety drug.

Keep us posted.

Our classes where in the basement, and we would go upstairs to sing or outside to play. I'm up in Northern Onatario, though I believe there may be some similarity to Wisconsin.
