Depression and emotions

Posted by adamie on July 3, 2001, at 18:04:12

I am currently trying to recover from a sudden severe depression caused by a medication i took called Accutane. I have had a very severe depression for 4 weeks and am currently taking paxil for 8 days along with a suppliment called sam-e.

I would just to know if I will be able to have all my emotions back? the depression has made me feel very empty with very little emotion. My fiance has always ment everything to me. Will I be able to feel completely loving towards her again once I recover from my depression? Please reply.

>Accutane, for acne? A good friend had the experience you did, his mom (he is 16) noticed the change to depression (a great, happy, loving guy), did research and argued with the doc who didn't think this could be causing the depression and he be taken off and try something else. He is doing fine now. I had a similar "sudden and severe depression" caused by allegra. I cannot take antihistimes. Hang in there and demand help.

how long did it take for him to recover? it has been extremely difficult yet recently better due to the sam-e I've been taking (paxil will take a bit more time to work). Do anti depressants restore loving feelings? that has been my primary concern.

the depression was so bad the next few days after stopping the accutane that i wonder just how well I can recover. after those days it gradually improved but then it got worse again. Worse to the point where every hour was a struggle. Now the days are deffinetly bearable. Waiting for time to pass by is now significantly easier but I just hope it keeps improving. I'm trying to be hopeful. Thanks for replying. Did your friend fully and completely recover? I'm just extremely concerned about possibly not regaining all my emotions.

Good questions...and you have probalby been told "everybody is different". I can't say about my friends recovery, except for my own experience...I saw him last summer and he was very depressed. I saw him for a week, then during the next month or so, mom figured out what was probably happening. I think it was probably 6 months and then I heard everything was doing well. For me, I keep a mood chart, so I can track from day to day, week to week, month to month. Some people use nmbers 1-10, and rate each number I found using a graph and coloring bar chart helped me more. I could then paste them together and even though there wasn't much change from day to day, week to week, month to month, I could see the change. Keep learning and asking.
