Could weight be a factor in quicker results?

Posted by kid_A on June 16, 2001, at 13:18:41

Just a thought; I just started on effexor and had some difficulties with the side effects. My pdoc assumes this is because of my low weight, I'm pretty thin comparitively to my ideal weight...

Well, If you experience more side effects because of your weight, does anyone know if you are likely to experience quicker results and at a lower dosage? This sounds logical to me, but I'm not entirely sure.

The caveat of these drugs is that they effect all people differently. I'm sure your initial seratonin levels come into play as well, as well as your overall psych. makeup...

I think you pretty much answered your own question: you're gonna get side-effects no matter how thin you are-- it sucks though.

Kid_A -
I think someone mentioned this here recently and had an argument for why the antidepressant effects would not be affected. I can't find it now.

I tend to doubt it really is that easy. If it were than you could just start off at the highest dose for a quick response and that doesn't seem to happen.

However I've wondered myself whether size was related to side effects. And there, higher doses do make the side effects worse. I'd love to know why there is a difference between the antidepressant effects and the side effects.

I've also wondered whether body size effects withdrawal experience. Although I don't follow the Effexor withdrawal threads closely it has seemed to me that there is a disproportionate number of women complaining there - though body size is only one possibility there.

Not to twist this thread in a abstact direction, but I think we've probably covered all the basses here... However I did have a question for you...

You're taking Geodon as I understand from a previous post above... I'm also on this medication, which I was actualy perscribed as a combination augmentation to effexor, and as well to help me sleep.

Problem is, the fxr side effects had been hitting me so hard that I never noticed any sleep benefits from the Geodon... How potent or usefull is Geodon in its sedative properties? Im sure its no remeron, but I'm curious if it will actually help me sleep any... I've been taking it now with a combination of xanax at nite, so I'm not too sure what to expect...

I think you're gonna find Geodon to have little sedative properties. I take it 3 times a day and it doesn't seem to put me to sleep. If you really need sleep from an atypical antipsychotic, then you should go with Zyprexa or Risperdal--or even better, Seroquel.
