Geodon versus zyprexa for bipolar disorder

Posted by Ethel K on May 21, 2001, at 12:19:59

I have been taking Zyprexa along with Effexor for treatment reistant depression and bipolar disorder. The Zyprexa had a profound effect on my thought processes but caused unacceptable weight gain. My doctor and I decided to switch to Geodon. I began with 20 mg. AM and PM and 7.5mg Zyprexa. Ultimately I went to 60 Geodon in the AM and 20 at bed. I had terrible sleep problems and we went back to 40 Geodon in the AM and 5mg. Zyprexa at night. That seems to give me the theraputic effect of the 10mg Zyprexa I was on and I can continue to lose weight. The Zyprexa at night has also eliminated the insomnia I had on the Geodon alone. I would be interested in hearing from others who have had sleep problems with Geodon.
