Lamictal

Posted by lattecrzy on April 10, 2001, at 5:24:40

I am in the very begining stages of starting Lamictal. I very much trust my doctor and he is starting me out at the small doses and ramping up at two week cycles. I have been sleeping less since I started it, but it couldn't be from the drug I don't think because it is so early in the treatment. I also have short lived and small mania periods and this may be one of them. Makes no difference, I'll continue along 'till there is a reason not to. Thanks so much for responding. I'm loving this.

lattecrzy,

Are you taking it at bedtime or a.m.? I had to start taking it in the morning because one night I NEVER got to sleep. No problems since.

I am up to 75mg now.

At the end of my trial of Lamictal, I was taking 400 mg (200 mg of it twice a day).

I decided that Lamictal wasn't helping anymore, so I switched to carbamazepine XR + divalproex XR + eventually, Visken.

But Lamictal at one time took care of my anxiety AND my OCD.

Hey, coffeebrain! Jah and I had the same mini-ups in the beginning of our trials ... I'm still workin' on mine (think Jah is too). Me, Jah and others shared our experiences here: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20010302/msgs/55442.html

Best wishes and keep us informed, by all means. :)

Hey Army,
Yeh, I've looked at all of the postings that pertain to where I'm at so I've seen the postings between you and Jah. I'm in a little different situation than most of the people that post for BP2. I'm in my 50's and have had this problem most of my life but have been treated for depression since my teenage years. I guess this mental health stuff wasn't up to our current standards way back then. (that's a joke) Most of the relationships I've been in have ended because of my behavior. I've had 'dark moods' since my early youth.
My current doctor was the first one to pick up on the BP diagnosis. The treatment on depakote has really helped but when I get down, I have a tendency to not go to work, and I get to feeling pretty guilty about that. My employer has been pretty good, but I do get some snide remarks so I feel bad. I work with such over achievers, the work that I do can seem pretty worthless at these times.
Did I mention that I was just diagnosed almost a year ago, so this is relatively new to me. The addition of lamictal I'm so hoping to get me out of these down moods. I wish this was a chat room sometimes 'cause I would just like to talk to people.
Oh, well, thanks for the words of encouragement.
